Bad spots / acne - from nowhere!

I wasn’t sure whether to put this in preteens or teens as DD is only 11 poor thing. She’s very hormonal, has started puberty- just awaiting first period.
I noticed one day she had a couple of pimples on her forehead- in a month they have become quite noticeable and red, worse in the middle of her forehead, some on her chin. Her hair has also become suddenly greasy & flaky .
She’s a clean child Grin and showers daily . This is really getting her down - worth a visit to the Gp even?? Thanks so much for any advice !

Know the feeling my dd same age and same. We use millelar water or however you spell it and also rose water. She uses face mask and nivea. I also have a black facemask from temple spa which gets rid. Failing that hydrocortisone works a treat

Thank you @Christmasfairy2020 , you feel bad for them don’t you, it’s such an awkward time Sad
Is hydrocortisone prescribed for spots or can I just buy it?

I’ll have a look at the face mask too!

My ds also has started with acne.He has tried all the clearisil type products with little effect. He is now using acnecide products and they have really helped. They contain benzoyl peroxide, so have to be used really sparingly.

Very gentle products, maybe eucerin or la Roche posay. The latter does a wash which contains salicylic acid but is for sensitive skins. Stay away from the spot blasting teenage skin section but maybe get some tea tree for the painful spots to put on overnight. If it’s getting very bad quickly a visit to the doc might prescribe some antibiotics.

Thank you both. I’ve just had a look at the acnecide gel , think I might get that to use under my supervision before bed (it sounds scary but effective!) And then just encourage washing with a mild cleanser , will have a look at some suggestions.

The drs will probably try an antibiotic cream first followed by a pill but I have a DS I’ve heard girls go on to the contraceptive pill for acne ?

On prescription however you can buy one otc. I really like the temple spa mask it does tingle. I get spots still at 31 and it helps wasn't cheap though xx

It can happen fast. Our DS'a voice broke suddenly and his previously clear skin erupted in terrible acne. A course of antibiotic tablets helped and the best thing has been salicylic acid night time wipes from Nip n Fab

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 07/05/2021 20:17

Thank you @ihavethehighground . I’ve looked at nip and fab - think it’s in Boots?
I’m wondering about the GP just to see if antibiotics needed to get on top of it but I’m going to try this acnecide gel first

Had no luck with the acnecide tbh would go to GP first
