Brace trouble...help!!

My dd has a horrendous ulscer which is rubbing directly on her brace. She hasn't gone to school today cos she can't speak or eat without it rubbing and is having to hold her lip away from it to get any relief. The dental wax from dentist is, she says , just sliding off her brace so no help. Can anyone recommend a descent wax or silicon that stays in place and also what's the best ulscer medication....bonjela isn't helping. I need her back in school tomorrow! Thanks.

DS orthodontist suggested Blu-tac!

Also years ago I got an ulcer treatment which was orange flavoured (or it might have been an orange colored tube!) and a little bit gritty and dry which coated the ulcer - can't for the life of me remember the name but I'll see if I can find it

Scrap that it was Daktarin which was for oral thrush for DS when he was a baby ConfusedSmile

😁....thanks anyhow @Thunderpunt!! The blu tac suggestion is interesting! Thinking it might go a bit gummy around the brace with saliva??

Is she thoroughly drying the tooth and bracket before applying the wax? Use a bit of kitchen roll or a cotton bud to get it as dry as possible first. Another barrier you can try is the wax from babybels if you have any or even sugar free chewing gum.

Poor thing. What is her wax-applying technique? is she taking a really MASSIVE blob and pushing it hard onto the brace? It can take a bit of fiddling and pushing, it shouldn't just slide off especially if it is on a bracket.

Iglu is an ulcer treatment too I think

Thanks for your replies everyone Smile. Will make sure she is drying the brace...that's good advice as I'm sure she won't have done that. The baby bell idea is interesting and deffo worth a try. Tried iglu....no good I'm afraid. DH has just popped up to Boots and was recommended something you put on a cracked tooth which has instantly numbed it so we'll go with that. Thanks all x

Orajel and Anbesol are both very, very numbing.

Sweetpea84 · 22/03/2021 17:05

Iglu helped both my girls when they first had their braces on.

Persist with the wax. My ds tried the wax and said it didn't work the first time but he did get the hang of using it and it did work.
