Made up scenarios

My ds is 14 and has always had a good imagination and been a creative thinker. Lately, being anxious about going back to school, he is talking at length about imaginary scenarios that either have not happened or are very unlikely to happen. An example, he came home from a short trip to Tesco and recounted an encounter with some other teens he is afraid of in lengthy detail where he said they’d followed him and one of them had offered him weed. He also claimed that police had stopped and searched him a few weeks ago.

I don’t know how to deal with this.

I'm sorry you had no response to this. I have had this from my dd since she was 9. She's now 16 and it's reached such a level that school appear to believe I have tried to kill her! (The latest story but The safeguarding hun are less gullible thankfully).

I don't have much advice but hoping he'll grow out of it hasn't worked with my daughter. Do you think he's actually trying to achieve something or is it anxiety? Anxiety can be extremely powerful. Is there someone you can talk to about this?

Safeguarding hub I've never typed hun!

Thank you for replying. School is on the case with the anxiety and helping now.

I'm so pleased. Anxiety can be seriously debilitating but lots of people do recover from it. I do hope your day gets what he needs. Good luck
