Skincare for 14 yo DD’s spots

Hi. 14 yo DD is really suffering with spots on her face, which are also on her shoulders. She uses a face wash with salicylic acid in but that isn’t enough any more. It’s definitely related to hormones but poor thing seems to be much more badly affected than her peers. Any recommendations for over the counter products or is a GP trip the best option?

I would try la roche posay effectlar duo cream on the affected areas, I used to get the worst hormonal acne and that helped. Otherwise it's always worth seeing the GP.

Acnecide cream works a treat (I’m 33 and still have the occasional flare up!) You can order it from an online pharmacy with no prescription. It dries out skin a bit so a good basic moisturiser would be good too. Also make sure she has an old pillowcase as it can really bleach fabric!

Hope it clears up soon!

It really depends on how bad her skin is and how she feels about it. There is nothing wrong with taking her to the GP if you’ve tried the usual remedies and they are not helping. If she has cystic acne it’s really quite painful and she might need more help if it’s bothering her, and to prevent scarring. Hopefully the GP will be sympathetic and can advise as to whether/which topical treatments to try or whether to try something else. The days of teenagers having to suffer with severe acne are thankfully behind us, lots can be done these days to improve things.

Another vote for la Roche possay duo BUT also go to your gp first. My dd had duac cream prescribed which was brilliant cleared it up beautifully. You can’t use it for more than 6 weeks though and that was when she moved to la Roche possay afterwards to maintain the clear skin. So far so good. Hope you get it sorted x

Vitamin D

It's made a huge difference to my dd after years of trying every lotion, potion and contraceptive pill!

Lots of suggestions thank you. We’ve tried La Roche and it’s lovely but it seems not to be enough now Sad
I like the idea of duac and then moving back to OTC stuff.
Thank you so much

I swear by Effaclar face wash morning and night followed by Epiduo at night and Dalacin T mornings. The cleanser you get from boots the creams we got from the GP. My son suffered badly and I took him to a dermatologist and this was her recommended skin care regimen - he was also prescribed antibiotics but they did not agree with him. The regimen though really worked - DD13 does the same. My DS is now 18 with lovely skin - the occasional spot but nothing like it was x

I cannot recommend it enough and we tried everything and this worked - may take a a month or so but stick with it x

Thought I would post an update
DD was prescribed Lymecycline antibiotics - she’s got a course of three months. I also bought some recommended Dermalogica products. The difference is huge (which I guess is the antibiotic at this point). She also has acnecide cream. I had wanted to avoid medication (can’t really explain why Confused ) but the nurse talked a lot about potential scarring if we didn’t get it under control. Maybe she’ll need heavy duty help for her teenage years, but that’s ok Smile. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Glad your daughter's skin is better.

Krazykhickee · 02/04/2021 13:13

Just a quick reply (late I know'!). My daughter has started using CeraVe and it's been great. Maybe try that when moving back to Shop lines
