Am I able to refuse camhs appointment if I feel its not needed anymore?

Spoke to GP a few weeks ago, ds at a really low point with worries and intrusive thoughts. We were told unlikely to get an appointment for months so we decided to seek help privately. We have done this before, but this therapist really clicked with him and he is doing so much better, it feels like i have my son back again. This morning in the post, I have received a letter from camhs and they said he is on the waiting list for an Initial assessment. Do I contact them now to say it may not be needed, I'm concerned about getting different people involved when he is doing so well or do I hold out until I get an appointment date and if I feel he is still doing well contact them then?

Would it be frowned upon to refuse an appointment that is offered?

Thank you in advance x

The initial assessment is an hour and a half appointment. Depends on area but it could be months away.

Why not just sit in it until you are given a date nearer the time and asses then?

If it is an initial assessment and your ds is receptive to it, I would take the appointment, it will probably be a while off yet anyway.

I have put my dd's appointments on hold as being home and doing home learning suits her (Aspergers), so she has been rolling along quite nicely.
They are quite happy to keep her on their books as when school opens up, her problems will no doubt resurface.

Thank you. I think that's a good idea as he can be up and down. Like you say it could be month away.

My dd waited 9 months after receiving that letter for her initial assessment

I'd just stay in the system but keep supporting privately in the meantime if you can
