DD paying for car insurance she can’t use

Just wondering if anyone else is I this position and seeking opinions. My DD is 18 and bought her fist car last August with her own money, as she was due to take her test in October...needless to say it was cancelled and was rebooked for December but again cancelled at the last minute. She is now scheduled for end of April but the dilemma now is she is paying over £100 a month in insurance for a car she is hardly able to drive unless it is for essential journeys. What have others done in this situation I wonder. Sorry if this is a 1st World problem to some extent

Everyone needs to make up their minds.

I'm not sure why I typed that Blush But it's my general opinion on life at the moment Grin

@Oblomov20

"DVLA website to say that learner drivers shouldn't be practising at all at the moment, not even on essential journeys. "

I haven't seen this.
Please link.

They won't be able to link because it's not the case. Someone has already posted the correct information earlier on the thread.

That's 12th January linked on the dvsa feed www.gov.uk/government/organisations/driver-and-vehicle-standards-agency

OK on essential journeys

Thanks everyone. The reason I posted is exactly what you have demonstrated. The advice is confusing and seems to keep changing and changing again...the advice currently in England is that the can drive for essential journeys just as she could in the last lockdown.

Unfortunately because we live on the Welsh border her test was booked for Wales so when they suddenly locked down it was cancelled again.

I will get her to call the insurance company, she does have a black box but we can look at what might be the best option.

We are trying to help her gain some perspective in all this disappointment that her generation will I hope be more resilient, more compassionate and more able to deal with disappointment which I hope will equip them going forward to be better people. Maybe they will be our hope for tomorrow

Haha, just let it all out! I had a moment like that on another thread 🤣

Man don't cancel the insurance. Give them a ring and see what they suggest. Car insurances don't like to be just cancelled and make it known the next time you try to get some.

FatCatThinCat · 24/01/2021 15:24

Don't cancel the insurance. Even if it's sat on your drive it can still be stolen.

Anyone got any advice for me please?
Wanted to book Ds1's theory test. For this week, 1/2 term. Or soon. He went online. Nothing available till end April! Angry

Are they currently closed? Or is that the backlog because they are currently closed.

I know it's covid. I knew driving lessons were stopped. I booked some for Ds1, but obviously he hasn't yet had them.

But Dh is an advanced teacher. And he's been teaching him.

But it was my understanding that actual tests were continuing. And I stupidly thus thought that the online theory tests were continuing. Was I wrong?

vjg13 · 17/02/2021 20:33

Theory tests and practical tests are currently not being held, practical tests were held for frontline workers during the first lockdown but not sure this time. Just book the first theory test you can!
