Hi,

my daughter is 14 and got a box of Japanese snacks for christmas.
She wants to get a small basket to keep on her desk, and fill with snacks.

I don't agree with this, she is allowed to eat in her bedroom however i don't think she should have constant access to snacks.

Please tell me your opinions on this as she is really keen and i don't like saying no, but i'm not really sure.

@HeyListenNavi

Why not just let her have a limited amount and when they're gone they're gone? The novelty will probably wear off anyway.
Yup^^

But surely if having these snacks constantly 'there' is going to be an issue for the OP's dd, she would have eaten them all by now ? It is 17 days since Christmas........

I think say yes to this particular box of snacks as it was a Christmas present but no in general.

It's a thing for teenagers to have a snack drawer.
Loads do it

SusanTheMum80 · 13/01/2021 15:46

as long as she doesnt get fat and unhealthy i dont see why you shouldnt let her. teenagers need freedom. -susan

How else is she meant to learn self regulation if you don’t allow her?
YABU as their her Xmas present, so technically not yours!

endofthelinefinally · 13/01/2021 15:49

Is she comfortable with mice? Grin

*they’re
Can’t believe I typed that wrong as I’m a grammar nit picker!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/01/2021 15:52

I would let her. Japanese snacks are great for signalling sophistication, and she won't run amok eating them, because they do not taste good.

torquewench · 13/01/2021 15:54

What do Japanese snacks comprise?

PhantomErik · 13/01/2021 15:58

I wouldn't mind this.

My DC (almost 12,10 & 8) are allowed to keep sweets in their own rooms if they've been given as gifts such as Christmas treats. The older 2 are very good at self regulating & still have quite a lot left. Younger one finished his about a week ago.

They all started off with 2 small selection boxes, 2-3 bags of chocolate coins/sprouts & a tube of pringles.

I don't mind if they eat in their rooms as long as any plates or cups are brought down daily & rubbish put in bins etc.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who trusts their kids to not inhale any food not issued out in rationing form. They have a bin and if they make a mess they clean it up.
