Just got in from work-house a tip! P (age6) greeted me at the door with "can I have my dinner now?!" S(15) greeted me with"we've no bread" so I got a loaf out of the freezer!!!! Can't find C (16)!! Pile of wet washing left in front of dryer and S wants to know if his jeans will be dry cos he's going out in an hour and can he have a lift cos it's raining!!!!!

One of the kids I work with thinks I'm a witch cos I wear pointy toed shoes. Pity my spells don't work on my teenagers - I haven't managed to turn them into well behaved humans with clean bedrooms or frogs yet - Frogs would probably be better behaved though!!!

If its bedrooms I think my 6yr old must be a secret teenager!!!

my kids when they got to 10 where told ok your room your mess you live in it,i got fed up of beating my head against a wall, they had a wash basket out side there room if the washing didnt go in it it wasnt done, usually after about 3 months of living in a shitpit, they cleaned it up them selves no probs, especially if they couldnt possible have any nice new things for there room as there was no room in the mess!it moved them

I have stopped pocket money until rooms are done. They have all week to clean up and that includes dusting and hoovering. I think, maybe, just maybe, that they are learning that leaving it until the last minute Friday night is really shitty and stressful. I am getting tough with the others, 'cos the 14 year old is walking over me and they are copying. I do help the littlest one a bit (aged 6) . I nag all week, consistently about rooms and when it gets to Friday night, they are all moaning about the mess. I keep telling them that if they got one thing out then put it away, it wouldn't be so messy, but do they learn?!! That's how homework/text books go missing! They all have a box on their desks to sling any school books they're not using that day, but do they use them?! Anyway, they'll learn and it's saving me a irtune!

i learned to choose the wars with the bedrooms i can close the doors and not see it, school stuff stays down stairs in a cupboard so it can't "vanish" before its due in,and anything they leave down stairs that is thiers goes in to a bag by the door, i tell them that they have so long to take it upstairs to thier room or it will get binned,at first they didnt believe me,but they know now it does get binned!

a good way i found with the younger ones that are learning thier A.B.C's is to say i bet you cant go and put, say 3 things starting with a specific letter away in your room, they love the challange and get a little reward when it goes well, like a small pk of raisins

I gave up on the bedroom thing years ago, told them if they wanted to live in a shittip, fine but no way was I going to clean it. 20 year old ds room is now like a palace and he cleans it himself. 15 year old dd's room - well the least said about that the better. It amazing though - if she asks for any friends to stay over she's always told only if the room is clean - it never ceases to amaze me how quickly she can clean a room for that!

I've got a new one for getting them to clean the entire house!!!! Break bones!!! Am in plaster having broken bone in foot yesterday. Dh is working away and Ds and Dd have cleaned house, done cooking, basically waited on me hand and foot. Do we see this lasting? Not a chance, so i'm enjoying it while it lasts!!! I wouldn't recommend it though - it's a bit of a painful way to get them to help!!!

I lol when I saw this loobz -I thoroughly identity with the lengths you have been driven to- I am a new mum now (10 month old cherub) but prior to this blessing I was legal guardian (and now ongoing occasional doormat) for some years to brother and sister now aged 20 and 21. They put me through hell and wrecked my house, health and teeth all things I consider to be prize possessions (but its good training for motherhood I suppose)- at least your teens responded to broken bones, my agony after painful wisdom teeth extraction under general anasthetic was a source of amusement to my bro and sis

mumwithnoname · 18/11/2004 08:05

Must confess I just shut the doors most of the time- the problem comes when they won't shut!!!! Ds2's idea of a tidy room is a pathway to his bed!!!!!

Hi Heymissy,
the sympathy from my two has gone now to be replaced by bouts of hystericks every now and then. I want green shoes for Christmas and my Dd asked me if I was planning to go to night out as an elf - I'm only 5ft 3ins and overweight (trying to diet) while she at 15 is 5ft 7ins and very slim. Ds thinks its great cos he can have car when he wants it now. Suppose I should be grateful for small mercies - they are keeping house clean for me - well apart from their own rooms and I give up with them!!!!!!!!!
