So dd (12yo in yr8) has just had her old year 6 primary school teacher (male) request to follow her on Instagram.
We never see him since she left primary.
Weird yes?

Very

HollowTalk · 14/12/2020 08:31

Very weird. She should block him. I'd be tempted to talk to his school about it.

Nellieee · 14/12/2020 11:42

That is completely unacceptable and very odd on his part.

Seeline · 14/12/2020 11:45

Wrong on every level. I think I too would be contacting the primary school. At the very least he needs some training.

tinselfest · 14/12/2020 11:51

Can an Instagram account be hacked? Maybe that's a possibility, otherwise it's totally inappropriate.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 14/12/2020 11:54

At best he's made a technical error and meant to follow someone else. Otherwise it's a serious error of judgement. Definitely ignore the request.

Cactuslove · 14/12/2020 12:02

Ignore and inform the school he works at. Very weird and inappropriate.

JingleJohnsJulie · 14/12/2020 21:10

Trust your instincts on this one. It's very, very weird and the school should know.

HeyBaby2020 · 15/12/2020 18:00

Are you sure it is the teacher and not one of the pupils making a fake account of him as when I was at school serval fake Facebook accounts were made of staff members with pictures from their own personal accounts.

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 15/12/2020 18:27

Are you sure it is the teacher
Yeah I'd be thinking this too. A lot of the teachers I know who are active on social media don't use their real names so students can't friend them (or parents can't harass them I suppose).

ikltownofboothlehem · 15/12/2020 18:32

As PP have said, there's quite a chance it's not him or he's been hacked - but even so, raise it with the school so they can look into it. If someone has hacked him / set up an account in his name he needs to know for his own protection. If it IS him the school needs to know for the children's protection.

Lipz · 15/12/2020 18:33

I don't use Instagram but is there a way of hitting a request by accident, like fb when I'm stalking browsing and I hit friends request by accident. Either way weird if he was looking.

We got an email from 2 of our schools saying students have set up fake profiles of teachers and are causing problems, it could be this.

I'd be tempted to message him, can you do this on Instagram? Then ask what's he's up to, could not be him and he's unaware of what's happening.

pasanda · 16/12/2020 21:27

He has since blocked dd so I guess it was probably a mistake on his part. Thank goodness!
