How do I get them to learn to cook, use washing machine etc? They show no interest at all in cooking.I’d like them to be self sufficient . Would also like a night where they do dinner! 12 and 15.

They can do it but if you want them to you need to make it at thing'. I would start with cooking as it's more fun. Buy a book like the green roasting dish one and get them to choose what they want to cook, buy the ingredients with your shop and on the alloyed day leave them to it. It would depend on the dc whether they could do it together in a civilised manner or whether alternate weeks would be better.

I’m learning that cooking is the one thing my son actually likes being involved in. Not that often but when he does it’s a nice time for me to check in with him. Make the things he enjoys, he might gradually start helping with the chopping or mixing or whatever it might be. Any time is good. He made us pasta and meatballs made night Smile

Agree with getting a cookery book and getting them to choose a meal.

Think with the washing machine you just have to show them what to do. If they need to start doing their own laundry, then just leave them to it.

If you haven't already start with skills. Knife skills peeling/chopping/ veg/dicing meat (safely!!!), hygiene, whisking cream, cooking pasta/rice/potatoes various ways, making a basic sauce, cheese omelette, hotbreakfast, Porridge, pancakes, eggs various ways etc.

Once they have them, then move onto making meals or baking. Jumping straight in if they don't have basic skills will turn them right off.

Thank you that makes sense. Now I need to know how to get them out of their rooms/ off the computer.
I’m being serious!

Do you sit together and eat Dinner/Tea? You could talk to them about it then.

Whenever you tell them, I'd give them a clear time of what's happening and when and that WiFi will go off without warning if they don't appear.

Are you doing it individually or together?

Magicsprinkles · 05/12/2020 22:30

Thanks! Jilted! Sorry not to get back to you before, have been a bit overwhelmed with everything going on. Yes we eat together, but need to get back to the table! Will work on this over Xmas.
