Is this is controlling behaviour??

I am a little worried about my DD's friend. Her parents are very very strict. For example once she gets in from school her phone is checked by her mum, her phone is then not given back to her until all
her homework and dinner as a family is completed. At 7pm she is allowed her phone back but is only allowed on it with her mum in the same room. Bedtime is 9pm and phone needs to stay downstairs. At school today she got a "cross "because she forgot her pencil case - she was soooo scared to tell her mum my DD walked her home and she said she was literally hyper ventilating because now she will not be allowed her phone at all for a whole week!!!! She hasn't responded to any texts or phone calls which isn't abnormal as her mum controls the usage. There are other things like she isn't allowed out with school friends (when not in lockdown!!) only friends her mum knows from her primary school and she isn't allowed to buy any sweets/ chocolate on way home from school and her mum searches her bag and pockets when she gets in (she does buy it and my DD often has the wrappers in her coat pocket!!) I think this is verging on controlling behaviour???

Verging?! That sounds awful and I'd class myself as quite uptight at times with regards to parenting teenagers!

Poor kid. This sounds totally unreasonable.

I take quite a relaxed approach to parenting my teens. Some might say too relaxed, but they’ve never given me reason not to trust them. When on a couple of occasions there have been issues on social media etc. They’ve come to me about it and we’ve sorted it.

This girl will never tell her mum anything for fear of punishment.
