Stretch marks on teenage boys back - any tips

My DS 16 seems to have been growing upwards forever ! He’s now around 6ft4. I think he’s stopped but he has been left with horrible looking red stretch marks all across his back - he’s self conscious of them - we don’t comment on them negatively at all - he looks like he’s been whipped. Are there any oils or creams that he rub on to help these fade ?

My son has these too

They do fade on their own, in time. But I don’t think there’s anything you can do to hurry it.

SnugglySnerd · 15/11/2020 18:40

I used Bio-oil daily when pregnant and they are not visible any more.

Yh my son has these, he is 6ft 7 and grew very rapidly over a few months.

It was a few years ago (he is 21 now) and they are much faded. Nothing much you can do tho, sorry.

Two of my sons got stretch marks on their backs from growing very fast at puberty. They are 6'2 and 6'3. DS3's in particular were very vivid.

Neither of them used anything on them, but at 23 DS3's have faded a lot and DS1 is 27 and his are now hardly visible.

DS3 likes to claim his are scars from fighting a bear or tiger or something Grin

Mine also got these. They are fading and I've heard they do eventually.

I used bio oil (aldi version) during summer as that seemed to be when they were most obvious.

beavisandbutthead · 15/11/2020 19:36

My son has them and I provided him with bio oil but don’t think he ever used it and now you can hardly see them

GreyishDays · 15/11/2020 19:37

They just fade to silvery. I have used bio oil on other scars but I really can’t see how it would actually work. I don’t think a poor teen boy would appreciate having rose scented oil slathered over their back.

My husband has those,.I don,t think you can get rid of them. By oil is meant to moisturise but no evidence it gets rid.

Worsethingshappenatsea · 16/11/2020 15:15

Both my DS got quite big and red stretch marks on their backs during teen years .
DS1 is 21 now and 6ft 5 and DS2 is 18 and 6 ft 2 and still growing .
They appeared really suddenly and both used bio oil and also palmers stretch mark cream and they have faded dramatically especially DS1 his are practically unnoticeable now.
It's definitely a growth spurt thing I remember my DB who is 6ft 6 getting them in his teens too .
It's horrible for them at the time as they were both so self conscious about them but if you start with creams hopefully he will see a difference within few months

Ooh, that’s weird cos my son is the same age and height and his friend commented on ‘scratches’ on his back the other day when his shirt rode up. I thought maybe they were from skateboarding but maybe they’re stretch marks? I will look when he come down for dinner.
Bio oil is supposed to be good for scarring.

Pearsapiece · 16/11/2020 18:13

I had these as a teen. They do fade and my advice would be to leave them

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 16/11/2020 18:17

Sounds weird but I'm sort of glad to hear it's not unusual! My DS20 has them and won't take off his shirt outside the house, even on holiday he wears a t-shirt because he is ashamed of his stretch marks. He grew rapidly too but filled out from really short and skinny to tall and solid - between 15 and 17 he shot up. I don't mention it to him because he's so embarrassed but wonder if having a quick chat about bio oil might help?

JustDanceAddict · 16/11/2020 20:04

Well i looked and it looks like he has them ^ he said they’d been there for ages and they’re def not scratches!

rainonarainyday · 16/11/2020 20:35

You could try dermo rolling them, but if on their backs you would need to do it for them. It's one of those things that different info on how often to do it, blah blah skin renewal cycles, but how do you know where you are in the cycle when you roll anyway ?! I've been trying it for crepey skin post pregnancy, but I'm slack, would love someone to do it for me. I'm using 1.5 mm needles and just a normal moisturiser afterwards, it certainly increases blood flow if good pressure used. I was trying to do it every 4 weeks as a compromise between places saying 3- 6 weeks between.
