Using an app? If you do, what age are your DC? Do they know you have an app? It kind of makes sense to me, but I'm aware none of that was available when I was a teen and don't know if it's a step too far.

I really wish my cat had an iPhone so I could track him!

I have find my iPhone for my two (14 and 13) and both know. DS often forgets to turn phone off silent so it means I can check where he is and turn on the loud alert noise that he tends to hear and the rings me! Both happy with it

Find my friends here too. Normally to see whether their school bus is nearly here or not since I pick them up from the bus stop. DS(16) has a social life so I track him from time to time. Safety issue rather than snooping. Unless it’s bikeable in daylight, we still have to be his chauffeur in any event wrt to drop off and pick up.

My son is on find a friend on my phone, and it means I don't have to text him all the time
Where are you? what time are you home etc
I can just see he's on the train home
Or still at school at the right friends house etc we live near several small towns which requires a lot of buses and trains for him so it's nice to see hes arrived at his friends house without him having to text me all the time
