DD13 started superficial self harm last year. When she moved up to secondary school. Some friendship issues and settling in. Just a few light scratches. She has now moved into covering her whole arm in deep scratches. She uses a razor. These bled and scab over and have scarred her arm.

School are aware of the self harm and have send me leaflet on what to do. They're referring her to the school nursing team.
Triggers are school and emotional upset (like falling out with friends) she always SH at nighttime when I'm asleep.

Today She text me on her way to school as she was on the school bus. That she had tried to strangle herself with a cable last night. (This was over 20 min of texts with me trying to understand what she was alluding to).

She said her throat hurts & she doesn't feel right. (She's already got a bit of a sore throat).

I've emailed school. Called and left a message. What else can I do?
Anyone experienced anything like this please?

I am sorry that you and your dd are going through this. My dd14 suffers from anorexia and also self harms. We have locked all sharps and meds away in a safe. We have a door open policy on her room unless she is getting dressed and check on her every 15 minutes. Also see if she will make a ‘self soothe’ box with other distractions in case that is helpful ( stress balls, that kind of thing). Ask her if she will come and tell you if she is not feeling safe. Some people have a code word that she could text you- something like that. You could see if your GP could refer her to Camhs or any local youth counselling services.
