DD stopped eating

DD 13 always had a good appetite; was fit and a healthy weight.

However over the last few months I've noticed she's become fussier with meals but eating lots of snacks and junk when she can get her hands on it.

Tbh I haven't had much time to think about it or ensure we sit down to family meals as both DH and I have been working erratic hours and my DM has been ill.

However things seem to have escalated since returning to school. The canteen is closed so students are required to bring in food. DD flatly refuses to take a packed lunch so we have been buying a pasta salad/sandwich from the local shop. However yesterday she told me that she's been throwing the food away as "not hungry/don't want to eat in front of people" and today told me that all she would eat is a small tube of Pringles Confused

To make matters worse she is also refusing to eat any kind of breakfast so she must be in her knees by the time she gets home, but even then only eats a small amount.

I am desperately trying to not make a massive deal of what's happening and treading carefully; so many changes going on at the moment, back to school, hormones etc but inside I have a huge knot of fear. Am so worried this is the start of an eating disorder but don't know what to do.

I would be getting her professional help as soon as humanly possible. You may not want this to be a "massive deal", but it could be, and the sooner she gets treatment and a proper assessment, the better her chances of recovery are.

I've posted about this recently and know how you are feeling. Dd is 16 and since lockdown ate less and less to the point of cutting out all carbs. She just claims she's not hungry but I think she is. She's lost a frightening amount of weight and periods have stopped. I'm really worried and contracted the GP - she's been referred to a Paediatrician so fingers crossed we can stop this before it sets in as an eating disorder. It's so hard knowing what to say without making the issue worse.
