Hi , has anyone’s child completed the bronze award ? My 14 year old would like to apply out of school , what’s the best way to do it ?

My daughter did it with the army cadets

Some schools offer it

Some local authorities have open awards centres where they can complete the skills/physical/volunteering activities and also have expedition training. The group I volunteered at previously had weekly sessions they could attend.

Scouts - cheap and knew what they were doing! Our school offered it for £120 - dcs insisted on this route - it wasn't very challenging for them though.

Dd did it through rangers (older guides), also school ran , also there was the option of doing it via an open centre as mentioned.

I wouldn’t bother at the moment as the camp expedition is off with covid, charities have changed rules so you largely need to be 16 or they aren’t open or having anyone die to covid etc.

Agree with Tallandall above, my daughter started beginning of this year, and started working at a charity shop and of course it was shut due to covid and once they re-opened they said they are not accepting young people anymore so she has nowhere to volunteer right now- she is doing through school, no guidance from school as yet! Expedition camps cancelled. DoE sent an email saying for this year, they will only receive a certificate due to all the challenges happening right now!
