How are your teens’ bedrooms decorated? (especially boys)

DS is keen to redo his room, and it is due redecorating regardless. But he has few ideas of how he wants it to look, especially decor like posters etc - he has vague rather than dominant interests so doesn’t want eg football posters, and doesn’t game upstairs.

Pinterest / insta / google searches show lots of unrelatable American interior designed bedrooms rather than real ones. So curious to know how all your teens have their rooms?

Mine's got pale yellow walls and blue bedding, curtains and rug. No decor apart from a calendar, he used to have football wallcharts when he was younger but doesn't want things on his walls now.

Pale blue walls, denim coloured curtains, grey carpet, denim coloured & grey bed linen.

Nothing on walls, crap all over the floor. 🤷🏼‍♀️

DSS is 17, and we re-did his room last year, as part of an ongoing whole house renovation.

When I talked to him before hand he said he had no specific preferences, but said no when I suggested pink Grin

In the end we’ve gone for keeping it simple, with a modern industrial feel, but not too ott, as the house is a 1930’s cottage and I wanted it to fit with the whole house, but still feel like it’s his.

It’s mainly an off white colour (slight green tint in some light), with a small pallet wall, black metal bed frame (sort of old hospital style). The floor is sanded back oak, so neutral but warm, and he’s got bedding/rug/curtains that are in blue and grey tones, with a couple of pops of yellow.

DH built the curtain rail, a hanging rail (attached over an old Victorian pine chest) and a desk out of key clamp scaffolding and some scaffolding boards (sanded down and treated).

He’s got a couple of largish black and white prints, and a small plant that we’re all astonished he’s been able to keep alive for so long! Grin

Sorry, that was far longer than I thought it was going to be! Grin

Ds's bedroom was decorated for his 15 to his spec. Grey brick effect wallpaper.. Grey bedding. Black gloss furniture.. TV on the opposite wall with wardrobe and drawers either side of mantlepiece..

One has pale blue walls, grey bedding, built in wardrobe with wooden doors, matching chest of draws & bedside table, desk/gaming chair and a drum kit. Geometric patterned curtains from John Lewis.

The other has a desk, single bed, wardrobe, a storage unit. Gaming chair. More JL geometric curtains & cream walls. Guitar rack, amp. We are thinking about taking out his single bed and putting in a small double on legs so he can store stuff under it. I currently have about six guitar cases under my bed, some his, some DH’s.

The 10yo’s room badly needs doing.

All three boys have a couple of floating shelves over their desks with stuff they like on them. That has really helped to personalise their rooms.

Thanks all - that wallpaper is great, Beachbodylonggone! Yes we have to make a decision on possibly switching to a double bed, he’s very tall so will probably need the space sooner or later.

DS1 put some sport, warhammer & star wars posters up.
DS2 has zero interest.
DS3 chose a bright blue & painted for hours (with big sister's guidance). We suspect DS3 is gay, btw, he quite likes cooking, gardening & interior decour.
