Texting another child and her Mother

My daughter has had a week of girls messaging her!

Most of it has been tit for tat (my daughter trying to front it all) They were once friends, I was never very comfortable with it. They always seem to have alcohol & smoke weed etc (the boys anyway).
My daughter came into me late at night to show me the messages as it had upset her.
These girls were asking , when would she fight them and messaging saying they want to 'bang' her & 'slap her' , which had happened a few times before.
I think it's Abit of jealousy but they have decided she has done something wrong in chatting to a 'boy'-friend she knows but one girl seems to like him so my daughter was is in the

I wasn't happy so I messaged one girl who was leading it , to stop messaging her. My cousin also sent a message telling her if she carried on we'd show her mum.

This girl messaged me telling me my daughter is this and that , she continued to message my daughter & her sister.

One of the boys from the group told my daughter he would get other girls to sort us out as we had text this girl.

I decided to call the girls mum , unfortunately it didn't go well although I do believe the messaging will completely stop now.

She is devastated I got involved and thinks I've made it all worse. There's no reason to see any of them again as they don't go to the same school.

Feeling I may have jumped the gun and feel so guilty now ... Shock

What else could you do?
Not sure where cousin comes in but you calling the parents of the child threatening violence is the right thing to do.

LovingLola · 04/08/2020 13:59

How old are they ?

Ellapaella · 04/08/2020 14:11

You did the right thing.

PlanDeRaccordement · 04/08/2020 14:11

You can, if concerned, file a police report regarding the cyber bullying and threats and that way your DD can call 999 and get immediate response if these kids corner her at a bus stop or anywhere.

dododotheconga · 04/08/2020 14:19

The only bit where I think you went wrong was you messaging the kids. That is never ok. If there's an issue then you contact the parents (or even the police if the messages are strong enough to warrant it). Adults shouldn't be messaging children.

How old are they?

Change your daughters phone number and disengage.

Is she likely to bump into them?

Seracursoren · 04/08/2020 14:49

It is cyber-bullying and threatening violence is never to be tolerated. I think I would report them to their school so that they are aware this happened.

Your DD needs to change her phone number but also be aware that anything she writes can be shared with anyone.

It is good that she came to you, but she needs to learn to come to you sooner for advice rather than giving as good as she gets.

I would have messaged the other girl telling her to stop all communication and if it then continued I wouldn't have gone to her mother I would just have reported it straight to her school. Let them deal with it.

Also how old are they? And yes, your DD maybe mortified, would it have been better if they had cornered her somewhere, beat the shit out of her and filmed it?

Nelsie99 · 04/08/2020 18:30

They are 13

Yes there is a possibility in a couple of months she could bump into them
