Did your teen's eczema worsen during adolescence?

My ds has had it since he was a baby, with an especially bad patch around year 3/4.
Calmed down to mild level eczema but since he turned 14 it's gone completely out of control and the old protocols are not working!
Using Aveeno and mometasone for steroid.

Thank you

can't really help except to say my DD's is pretty bad at the moment (she's 15) not sure if its adolescence per se or increased stress as she is having a pretty tough time at the moment.

I don’t know that steroid. Is it a potent one?
Is he using the emollient frequently enough? Aveeno doesn’t cut it for me. I need a prescribed heavy duty cream.
What’s he washing with?
Have a look at eczema org for info to make sure he’s using the right amount of steroid for the right duration.

I'm not a teen, I'm 50 but I was born with eczema. I came out covered in it. I still have it in small patches, currently on a couple of fingers and a couple of toes. I find stress makes mine worse so this could be the case for your DS.

My doctor prescribes Betnovate, I have both the cream and the ointment. For general moisturising on my skin I use Nivea Soft in the white pot, it's about the only cream I've ever got on with.

Hi thanks for the replies.
I'll look into Nivea softv, but isn't it perfumed?
Tried washing with dermol lotion. Currently using a bleach wash (miniscule amount of bleach) which is helping.
Cetraben and other emollients prescribed didn't help.
Mometasone is an exceptionally strong steroid. I'm always met with grave concern when requesting more from the doctor....

I'll check the website. Thanks

Yes yes yes. My son is 16 and dr said it can get worse in puberty. We use dermol zeroveen and eumovate but the second he stops using it he gets it back!
Hope he grows out of it.

I've just checked the ingredients on my pot of Nivea Soft and parfum does come right at the end of the list - I didn't realise that, yet my skin is fine with it.

Another prescription cream I've had is Diprobase. I was told it was similar to Cetraben but my husband has Cetraben for something else and it feels a lot lighter than Diprobase., which was quite a thick emollient.

I think the problem with eczema is that what works for one person, doesn't always work for someone else

Please google TSW (topical steroid withdrawal)

This is really interesting to me, my DD’s exzena has just got much worse. She is 13 and I wasn’t sure if it was hormones or stress! She’s now using doublebase and fucidin HC cream but not much improvement yet ...

Mine did, and didn’t really calm down until I got pregnant with DS. I’m 8 years on now and well outside the pregnancy / breastfeeding hormone stage but it’s never come back and I am completely free of it.
