Heartbroken teenager

Any ideas how to cheer my daughter up?

She has been with her first little boyfriend since September last year. He seems like a lovely boy. He's been to the house loads and is very down to earth and funny.

All seemed fine. She said he was a bit quiet on Saturday, but was telling her there was nothing wrong and he was fine. I said to give him space as the current lockdown situation is affecting everyone, and people do have down days.

On Sunday she was on face time to him and he very abruptly ended the call. She hasn't heard from him since.

I was trying to reason with her that maybe he'd had his phone confiscated again (his mum constantly confiscates his phone) and she was ok, but then yesterday he was posting on tiktok but still hasn't been in contact with her. She sent him a message on snap chat which he opened and left her on read

She is so sad this morning. I am giving her space, but this is the first time I've been in this situation as a parent and as it all seems so sudden, I don't know what to do 😔

Oh the first breakup (especially when it’s this shit) is always the worst.

Let her know you’re there if she needs a hug or a cry, or wants to talk to you. Maybe have a film night with treats and cuddle up on the couch so she has closeness without feeling like she needs to open up? I still do that with my mum when I’m feeling shite but don’t particularly want to talk about!

I feel for you. I swear we feel their first heartbreak almost as much as they do! Be there for her, but don't intrude. Small acts of kindness - take her a cup of tea and biscuit, offer to snuggle on the sofa watching her favourite film etc. Tell her you are ready to listen when she feels ready to talk. You sound like a lovely caring Mum!

Thank you.

Until he opened her message on snapchat and didn't reply, I was convinced his phone had been confiscated again. The way he ended the FaceTime call (just hung up in the middle of a conversation) is usually what happens when his phone has been confiscated and he has taken it back and is about to be caught

His mum confiscates his phone almost daily for (in my opinion) ridiculous reasons like him not wanting to play with his little sister, or making too much noise running up the stairs, so it's a very common occurrence

I have just made DD breakfast and am going to melt some chocolate for her to dip strawberries in. It's so horrible watching her going through this 😔

Update. He has contacted her.

He says him and his mum had a falling out on Friday which rolled on all weekend. They argued again on Saturday night. She then took his phone, but he took it back and she caught him with it on Sunday (the abruptly ended FaceTime call) so he lost it for an extra 2 days as a result.

He charged up his old phone so he could access social media but was having to be very careful not to get caught with it. He claims he'd had to hide the phone when he read the snapchat message but then it disappeared and he couldn't remember what it said to reply to her 🤔 and it was also broken so wasn't working properly and kept freezing (which to be fair to him was the reason why he got a new phone in the first place) so he gave up trying to use it.

It's not quite adding up to me, maybe I'm being cynical, but he now has his phone back. Just going to keep an eye on things Incase he's going to start using the phone being confiscated as an excuse to go silent on her for days at a time
