Long story short, DD who is 13 has been suffering with backpain on and off for about 6 months now. Sometimes she's extremely uncomfortable. I took her to our local surgery and she was seen by a physician associate who didn't think there was anything wrong and just said to take ibuprofen and paracetamol but the pain continued. Took DD to see a chiropractor about 4 weeks ago as I had really great response from chiropractic treatment with my own back issues in past and he said DD's pelvis is slightly twisted but nothing major and he manipulated her back and said pain should subside. Unfortunately it's still bad and now I can't get an appointment with a chiro. Rang surgery today and have a telephone appt with a Dr tomorrow. Am just wondering if anyone has any experience with this? receptionist at gp surgery was not pleasant! I know we're on lockdown but I am worried about my daughter :(

Not really sure if I can help but my first thought was is it definitely her back that’s causing the pain and not something like a kidney infection?

I think you are right to see, medical help, any pain like this Needs investing Smile

Where is the back pain?

Starferry · 11/04/2020 21:53

Thanks for your replies. Pain is generally lower back but sometimes causes discomfort all over. Had a video appointment with the GP and she's not concerned. Had DD doing all sorts of movements! It's not kidney infection as it's been going on for a while...on and off and not other symptoms to suggest it's a kidney infection. GP is putting it down to growing and puberty for now ( DD only just starting to develop and no periods yet) and said to try yoga /Pilates and to bring her back in a few months time if no changes. I asked for an x-ray be she said not at moment. I will keep an eye on it.

Is she having a growth spurt perhaps? My DD had back pain for 8 months last year, the same year she shot up by 6 inches. We saw the GP numerous times, eventually saw a Chiropracter. He could tell her hips were slightly out of line and said that connecting tissue and tendons ‘grow’ at a slower rate than bone, and could be the source of pain. We got her a memory foam pillow, and another firm pillow for under her knees, and encouraged her to sleep on her back. She’s been much better since. HTHs x

@NorthernBirdAtHeart thank you! That is really reassuring...looks like we both did the same things. GP and chiropractor! DD is definitely going through a growth spurt. Constantly hungry as well and she's a pretty intuitive eater so I know she's hungry for the right reasons. I mentioned the pillows to her and she's not overly keen about sleeping on her back but we shall see! We're going to start yoga together this morning so maybe that will help too. Thanks again Smile
