Schools closing and teenagers

As it's looking like schools are closing I'm wondering what to allow my teenager to do while she's off... she's got a huge group of friends and I know they're going to want to hang out but seems to defeat the point of not being at school if they're all together anyway... not relishing the thought of having her at home Grinbut is that what is expected?

Worry about it if schools do close
Unless you are in a country where it’s been confirmed that they definitely are

Aramox · 12/03/2020 12:45

At least they can wash their hands if they’re off!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 12/03/2020 12:46

Even if she does hang around with her large group of friends, it won't be as many people as she would come into daily contact with in classrooms, corridors and lunch rooms or assemblies.

carriebreadshaw · 12/03/2020 12:46

True there's a soap shortage at our school!

I think it's pretty much a given that they'll shut and you know with teenagers you have to be prepared with your decisions!

so boris has just said he is not closing the schools

tinytemper66 · 12/03/2020 12:50

Where has Boris said this?

cabbageking · 12/03/2020 12:50

If there is a problem in that area with infection then it is about reducing the spread and keeping them at home would be the sensible approach.

carriebreadshaw · 12/03/2020 12:53

Nothing anywhere on the news saying that yet

DesLynamsMoustache · 12/03/2020 12:57

Sky is reporting it based on what Matt Hancock said yesterday.

All school will be setting work, so she won’t have that much free time!

carriebreadshaw · 12/03/2020 13:20

Hellodulling that's a good point actually

Our school has already set up the next six weeks work online and checked all the dcs can access it.
We had a dry run yesterday. Work will be required to be submitted each day. If my ds thinks he’s going to have a few idle weeks, I think he’s in for a shock Grin

I just hope 6 weeks is overkill. Confused
