absorbent but narrow pads for DD

DD 13 is finding every type of period towel chafes her thighs. We have tried teen pads-not absorbent enough, different brands of ordinary pads, fabric pads and period pants.
She's not happy about tampons as she's tried them and doesn't like them.

Am thinking of trying to source old fashioned thick puffy pads.

Maternity towels are narrower and thicker

Ryantrain · 29/02/2020 11:34

Ger her those period pants as well, google period pants

HorseFlyOfExtraordinaryLength · 29/02/2020 17:53

Right I've been to Boots today and not an old fashioned pad in sight.
Maternity pads are sooooo long!
And as previously stated she has period pants and says they chafe too.
Am about to look online

There's an organic brand on amazon that I buy because they're long and don't chaff. Don't feel like hard cardboard. Fluffy as you say. Can't recall the brand name but think they're Italian... Or Italian sounding

My friend really rated modibodi pants-expensive but very good.

loutypips · 01/03/2020 14:50

Has she tried the lillets teens pads? They are really good.

Megan2018 · 01/03/2020 14:52

Kotex are very soft but might be too big?

chocolatespiders · 01/03/2020 14:56

I buy some body form in home bargains in and orange pack which are narrow and bulky compared to the thin ones around. I hate anything with wings.
Sorry I dont have a pack to photo but have only sourced them in home B. Will try and post a photo in the week.

dementedpixie · 01/03/2020 15:02

Kotex are thicker. Normally found in discount chemists

dementedpixie · 01/03/2020 15:04

These are the kotex ones

Yep loutypips teen pads aren't absorbent enough for her full flow days.
I'll keep my eye out for Kotex and maybe look at organic ones on amazon.
I saw Tesco basics ones online which looked possible.
Am also wondering if shorts style knickers with legs and a wingless pad might work.

Savers/superdrug have had kotex before. Have also seen them in home bargains

jmscp · 01/03/2020 18:37

Asda's own nighttime pads are long narrow and fluffy!

Kanga83 · 01/03/2020 19:38

Have a look at NatraCare. A bit pricier, but they don't contain the nasties of regular pads which I react to.

goldie04 · 01/03/2020 19:42

Would she try cloth pads? They're very comfy!

Xylophonics · 01/03/2020 20:04

Lillets teen pads are good- I use them myself despite not being a teen!

HorseFlyOfExtraordinaryLength · 01/03/2020 22:18

She's tried cloth and teen pads.
Aha Superdrug you say. I can get to one of those and will look.

Go with organic pads, they will hardly chafe her skin, no irritations and enough absorbent. You can buy the Natracare maxi pads on amazon or in some shop/pharmacy (the "maxi pad night time" ones, the others ones could be not enough for heavy periods).
My DDs use the period pants by Yoyi and never had skin problems. This combo should be perfect in her case.
I don't know why but incontinence pads too hardly give skin problems, maybe just because these are supposed to be worn all the time, and there are of any size/absorbency, you can give them a try.

I use the teen pads and I'm super heavy (need to change super plus tampon every hour or so). I've found no pads or tampons last the 4-8 hours they are supposed to. The nighttime ones are better, but it maybe a case that she's not changing often enough.
I'd say though, if she's that heavy already, then a visit to the GP is in order. They should be able to give her medication to lessen the flow.
