Asking for my Dd14 and Ds16...
I’m tired of having to hand out cash and just want a system where I can top up money on a card
Should also allow me to easily track what they are spending their money on
Would appreciate any advice on what card/debit systems others use
Thanks in advance

Take a look at a cash account with Metro Bank. Really recommend it. We opened the accounts for our DTDs when they were 13, no appointment needed - took ID in with us (you can check what they need online) and we left with the accounts set up and the card, ready to use.
They can use the debit card for transactions in stores, online, use cash points and counter services etc. The app is good and if you are joint account holder with them you get the statements too.

My dc, the same age as yours have Nationwide teen accounts, we can put money straight in their accounts using online banking, they both have the app on their phone to check their account, they have debit cards with contactless.

Dd has a NatWest account, has online banking so I can see what she has left and we can make bank transfers in. It was easy to set up because I had an account with them.

Nationwide here too, proper banking for teens and automatically extends to student account when they go to university.

Just get an 11+ current account. Nationwide and Santander always come up as good options. Visa debit/ contactless/ app.

Nationwide here too. I pay in by direct debit each month. He gets pay from a little part time job paid in too. Mainly uses it for contactless payments, and he can use it abroad without charge (great for school trips). Online statements, can't go overdrawn.

Ds has a Nimbl card which he uses for incidental spends. He has various other accounts for savings but the Nimbl is the card he uses in the shop. I can transfer money over instantly from the Parent account that comes attached to it.

Mine have both had Santander accounts since they were 11, it's great, pocket money goes in each month and they both have the app so can check their accounts easily.

DD2 has a Barclays account with contactless card. She got it when she was 11.

pilates · 21/01/2020 22:33

Nationwide

Bonkerz · 22/01/2020 07:40

Mine have go Henry cards. Can keep track online. Give them jobs to earn more money and it's not expensive to top up etc

CeeceeBloomingdale · 22/01/2020 07:42

DD has a current accouht with Santander. I have the log in details, she doesn't, so I can see what she's buying and manage the account.

Oblomov20 · 22/01/2020 07:44

Nationwide.
Works brilliantly.

My son (13) has just opened a under 19s account with Lloyd's, also recommend Go Henry as you can track spend and amounts. It will also let you set limits for spending and where they can spend the cash.

I got my dd aged 16 a normal Halifax bank account a few years ago as we are also with Halifax and it makes transfers easier for us. However I’ve recently got myself a Monzo card and I wish I’d got one of those for her instead - the app is amazing, it’s really good for budgeting and learning how to allocate money for spending pots / saving etc. It is good for techy teens as it sends you a notification whenever you spend on it and tells you how much in total you’ve spent each day. It also sorts everything into little pie charts with how much you spend on food / groceries/ leisure etc. I am really impressed with it.

Mine just had NatWest teenage bank accounts, I transferred their allowance monthly

SunshineDays2019 · 22/01/2020 17:23

Nationwide here too! Good service, no complaints.

Catapillarsruletheworld · 23/01/2020 18:51

Both dds have a Barclays account with a contactless card. I pay their pocket money in every week and dd1 gets her baby sitting money in there too. So much easier than having to hand out cash all the time.
