Are your teens allowed to watch ‘sex education?’

It’s classed as an 18 because there’s lots of swearing & sex in it, but it’s put across in a factual and funny way. Would you let your under 18 teen watch it?

My kids are 16 I do not police what they watch.

@tompinch the whole point of the show is that is makes normal bodies and relationships in all the wonder variety - normal.

It's well worth watching. It's brilliantly inclusive without every felling like its trying too hard, or indeed at all.

Great cast of characters, touching, clever, wise, and funny.

I watch it with my parents sometimes and from my point of view, it's perfect for teens and my age group. Factual, funny, and teaches all about the other stuff like LGBT, sexism and racism. I wouldn't say it's inappropriate because, (eek: shocker.. most teens are masturbating/having sex from the age of 14-ish that I know of) - scary thought, I know 😉😬.

My ds14 has apparently seen a few episodes at a friend's house and dh and I have just started watching it - I think it's brilliant. I said to ds I thought he might cringe a bit watching it with us but he thinks I'm the only one who'll be embarrassedBlush

Dh and I watched the episode last night where the girls all stand up at the end and do the 'It's my vagina' thing in assembly - I'd like to rewatch it with ds actually, sexting has been an issue at his school and sometimes it's much easier to have conversations hypothetically about a TV show rather than be seen as lecturing.

As an aside, most of our relationship conversations take place around the characters in the O.C. at the moment, which I'm thoroughly loving rewatching with him - he and his sometimes on sometimes off girlfriend are known as Seth and Summer in our houseGrin

I'm from the US. Can some one tell me what an aptitude scheme is?

Greendayz · 07/02/2020 23:56

Molly I've no idea! I assumed it was something that the clearly-American script writers put in. Do be aware that UK sixth form colleges are nothing like the one shown! It all seems very American to us (apart from the British accents, obviously)

I read about it being quite an Americanized high school experience. The whole show is so surreal with the clothes and the timelessness of the music and the weird home decor. Like Otis' mom still has a corded wall phone.
I thought it was set in the 90's until some one pulled out a cell phone!
Also there are so many inter racial relationships on the show and they never talk about racism at all. I don't know if its part of the weirdness of the show or if that's just not a thing in the UK.
