Part time job for ds17

Hi, ds17 has had no luck in finding a part time job, hes still at school.

He has applied for loads of seasonal posts recently mostly in retail but is willing to do almost anything for petrol money.

So wise mnetters any suggestions of what else he could do would be fab.

Waiter ?
Babysitting?
Is he a good enough swimmer to do a lifeguard course (yes, it costs upfront, but soon earned back)
Washing up in a pub or cafe?
(Wrong time of year probably but, when Spring comes round) - contact local gardeners to see if they can give him some hours mowing lawns, etc. ?
Any tourist attractions where you are? They often need seasonal staff.
Cafes?

Has he tried McDonalds? They are always recruiting from that age group.

DS1 recently got taken on at JD sports. Keep an eye out online.
Local pubs, restaurants, garden centres, takeaways etc?
Train to be a referee for the junior leagues locally here, and it's £25 an hour! DS does that too sometimes. Costs £100 to do the course though.

My DS's have found it easier to get jobs in smaller independent pubs and cafes rather than big chains or retail - might be worth dropping a CV into some of those. Eldest DS also did NPLQ lifeguard qualification - it was £200 I think but he quickly got a job afterwards and it pays quite a lot more than a pub or cafe.

McDonald's is his best option and despite their ubiquity they are decent employers for the young, dd was treated very well (nb they are franchises so worth checking which branch is better locally)

Thanks for these ideas I'll pass then all on to ds.

I might be biased but he really is such a good lad & I hate to see him so down in the dumps, he passed his driving test just before christmas & reality has hit with regards to running costs.

My ds 17 and nephew 16 both have jobs in local independent pubs.
One through a friend and another through following the pub on Facebook and being first one to see a job advert.
Make sure your following all local pub chains on your social media hopefully that will help.

Another vote for Mc Donald’s.
Whilst here he can look for jobs in other places if he doesn’t like it.
My daughter started here at uni, only lasted a few months but then got a job in next and a local cafe

My ds asked for work experience. So he worked for free for a week and got offered a job from there. It is in a bar/restaurant.

Santasy · 02/01/2020 21:57

Probably relevant to point out he did work experience in Feb and got regular work from June only

I scoured indeed.co.uk, looking for part time jobs for my DS. I also created a CV with his school/work experience and together with a covering letter popped these into the local restaurants/shops in town. Now he has a part-time job in retail. It's a lot of effort but fingers crossed, he may get a job.

If you've got a local football club, they sometimes employ teens to work on match days.

Car wash, petrol attendant, Cinema.
Dog walking. Window washing. Cutting gardens In correct season.

Try local warehouses - especially in seasonal trades such as fashion or food.

I work as a lead recruiter for a high end clothing company and we take on students in summer and keep the good ones on part time in the warehouse. So that could be a possibility. And the staff discount is awesome!
