Teenagers NYE

God help me, I said DD (14)could have some friends over for NYE. Thankfully only 4 of them (all 15), but they have booze (I said it's OK) and there isn't too much IMO. They have 10 small bottles of WKD and I've provided Coke and lemonade and some party food.

Any tips? New territory as a parent for me!

Do the parents know they have alcohol? Because you’re threading a fine line there. I personally wouldn’t be happy for DD to be there, and I am one of those continental mums who pours a sip of wine with a meal to her kid. So no totally against, but...

DD is a teenager btw

You should check with the parents that they’re happy for their kids to have alcohol

One of the other kids brought it (supplied by his Dad) and the other 2 parents are aware. They've been given my phone number but as yet I've not had any contact, apart from DDs best friend who's Dad's number I have.

It's only 2.5 bottles each. I think they will be fine. It will give them a bit of a buzz then they will eat snacks and drink juice and be sober by midnight! I've been there with two teen girls.

DS is 15 - nearly 16 - and he told me how much he drank last night. I was a bit shocked that parents would provide actual vodka for 15/16 yr olds as opposed to drinks you’re describing which I think are ok once in a while for 14/15 upwards. WKD is grim anyway 😆
The difference in attitude to alcohol between different parents is massive ie, from asking if they can have one beer at a 15 bday party to providing actual vodka and mixers (not pre-mixed Smirnoff ice which is about 4%).
DS actually asked me if I would hypothetically provide vodka for his friends on his 16th bday and I said no - beer ie Bud , cider and pre-mixed (and id hide the vodka and spirits in the house) only. Wouldn’t ask parents then though, think it’s obvious that some drink will be provided at that age.

Well they all survived unscathed and had the 'best night ever'. They all got 'really pissed' (merry IMO- I kept popping in and they were laughing and giggling and singing to Queen).
One girl admits she was sick, but it was in the loo and didn't make any mess.
They didn't sleep though! I had to go in a couple of times to tell them to keep the noise down, we live in a semi, and they slept from 5am til 7am, the last ones only just gone home now.
I don't remember having that kind of staying power 😁
All in all I think it was a success. Oh, and I'm glad the bedroom had lino on the floor as there were multiple beers spilt and popcorn scattered, but I can cope with that (they mostly cleaned it up themselves).

Well, you will be the best mum ever in their books! Congratulations for doing this, keeping an eye on them and it being all ok in the end. You are much better than me!! ( I couldn't cope with the stress of it!)
