Worried about sixth form

My DD15 has recently applied for a few colleges in the local area. She was later than all of her friends in applying but is well before the deadline, which is January. She has heard back from one with an interview date however the one she is really hoping to go to have sent a letter to say we will hear from them with a decision in March. No mention of an interview, nothing. Does this mean she left her application a bit late and the interview slots are gone? It is a very popular sixth form and I am unsure as to whether not having an interview will give her a disadvantage to getting in? Any help would be lovely x

I hope not because that's us as well! I assume it's because of course choice as to whether an interview is required?

NCTDN · 28/11/2019 21:50

Have her friends got interviews for that place?

Her friends haven't applied to that sixth form! I will be so heartbroken for her if she doesn't get in, she's been wanting to go there since she was little.

Does their admissions procedure say that they will interview?

Maybe they are waiting until after the application deadline so that they can assess which applicants they have before deciding whether to interview some/all, or just offer without.

Round here sixth forms are desperate for numbers, so they will interview everyone unless they are applying for something they are clearly hopelessly unsuitable for (and even then I suspect they might bring you in and try to suggest you apply for something else). I would have thought, even if popular the sixth form would not be rejecting anyone at this stage? Lots of students apply for multiple sixth forms so they need to hedge their bets a bit.

The one near me, massively oversubscribed, doesn’t interview.

OddBoots · 30/11/2019 19:38

Is it a state sixth form or private? If it is state then admission cannot be on the basis of interview as that breaks the admissions code that states . In the case of sixth form applications, a
meeting may be held to discuss options and academic entry
requirements for particular courses, but this meeting cannot form
part of the decision making process on whether to offer a place.
Boarding schools may interview children to assess their suitability
for boarding;"

Ring them on Monday, ask what the application process is. Will put your mind at rest, I’m sure; they probably just don’t do interviews.
