DS late for overtime shift

Hi,

My 18 y/o ds works in tesco and was scheduled for an overtime shift last Tuesday but turned up 5 minutes late as he was stuck behind a tractor and then was in a traffic jam as he was driving to work.

Is he likely to get pulled in over this and / or have 5 minutes of his pay deducted from him?

Has he not spoken to his boss about it ? Confused

user20 · 20/10/2019 09:33

No but he spoke to the team leader for the department he was doing the overtime for and she said it was fine but hes worried that the payroll will see he has clocked in 5 minutes late @IHaveBrilloHair

If he isn’t usually late I wouldn’t have thought it would be a big deal I’m sure there are many times he clicks off later than his scheduled time.

Was it actually 5 minutes? Really?

Because most people would be able to hustle their way to recoup such a small shortfall.

DivisionBelles · 20/10/2019 09:54

I used to work for Tesco. He won't get any pay deducted. Him clocking in late will appear as an 'exception' on the store attendance report, and provided it is a one off, nothing will happen. He may get a 'try not to be late in future' talk, but that will be it. Don't worry.

When I worked in a shop there was a bit of leeway they would usually dock 15 minutes of pay if you clocked on 7 or more minutes late I think. That was quite a while ago now though so things might have changed

Why on earth are you posting here about this?
He's 18
he speaks to his boss and deals with it. End of.

user20 · 20/10/2019 15:56

@DivisionBelles he has clocked in about 1/2 mins late for about 3 of his contracted shifts and nothing has ever been said so I'm not sure what might happen

Sounds like there is more of a DS problem than a time deduction problem. Its not a great image to put forward is it Sad

cocomelon23 · 21/10/2019 06:51

Why is he late so much? Surely you aim to get to work a few minutes early to allow for things like traffic?

ssd · 21/10/2019 10:39

Sounds like he hasn't learned to be responsible for himself yet as he's used to his mum sorting out anything for him.... Hence this thread.
Let him grow up op.

Widowodiw · 21/10/2019 10:48

It’s five mins and your posting about it here? What will be will be. He was late if there’s a sanction he will have to suck it up.

BrokenWing · 21/10/2019 17:01

I hope I'm not this involved in ds's time keeping when he's 18. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Why are you asking him /is he telling you when he is 1-2 min late?

How are we meant to know if his line manager will do something about his poor time keeping or if they are more leinent?
