Looking for ideas for next year!

OP, you’re not giving us much to go on! What age and sex are your teens, what interests and hobbies do they have, etc? What suited my teens may be regarded as complete shit by yours!

Aragog · 30/08/2019 13:43

Dd just lives holidays and always has. She's 17y now and I keep assuming she might not want to come but she claims not to want to stop. Think she will just add in a holiday with friends too!

It really depends on their ages and interests though, and yours too as it's important there is something for you all for a good holiday.

Horehound · 30/08/2019 13:44

Orlando/theme parks.

doonaduvet · 30/08/2019 13:58

Edinburgh Comedy Festival. Teenagers loved it, went to shows by themselves. We loved it too.

Aramox · 30/08/2019 18:09

More detail- I have a 13 year old who avoids our company and will veg with phone anywhere but will happily do more active stuff if pushed by someone else. Did a group holiday this year which worked well. I don’t like all inclusive or just beach. I know all teens are different but complaints on other threads suggests holidays bring out certain common features!

Iceland is so different that even the most moody teen can't help but be awed by walking on a glacier or seeing the waterfalls and geothermal geysers!

Can you do some more group hlidays with different themes?

Walk a certain trail like the penine way or south west coast path, one where your bags are taken on to accomodation and you are picked up and dropped off each day? Most coastal resorts have Surf school or sailing courses for the teen for part of the day then meet for dinner in the evenings?

Holidays DD has really enjoyed over recent years:

California
Florida and theme parks
Canada - Toronto, Montreal and Niagara Falls
Japan - Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka plus the theme parks
Singapore
New York
Washington
Malaga
Valencia
Majorca
Antigua for winter sun

We tend to book separately, and not into too many all inclusive type places (other than in the Caribbean perhaps) and not into beaches.

Villa holidays with private pool & good WiFi suit our teens best, they are 18 & 16.

cornstarch · 30/08/2019 19:52

Disney and a cruise

Itsnearly2020 · 30/08/2019 20:02

I love a beach and complete veg out. Our last holiday though was a cycling holiday in Europe, this was a huge success with 16 year old. We had family time together during the day (I must admit to my speed irritating him at times though 😂) and in the evenings stayed in lovely hotels with WiFi and solitude for the teen. We’d do it again.

Arewedone · 30/08/2019 20:08

@Itsnearly2020 I really had to push myself with the idea of cycling as I’d never really tried it, was just desperate to try an active holiday, but same for us. We really enjoyed it and your so knackered at the end of each day the teens chill on their phones and DH and I the cocktails!

Itsnearly2020 · 30/08/2019 20:13

@Arewedone it’s ace isn’t it? I’m getting an electric bike if we go again 😂 My only regret was not booking a super spa hotel for a few days at the end ... next time!

TooDamnSarky · 30/08/2019 20:13

Were these organised cycling holidays? Could you post some links/details - keen on this for next year!

Arewedone · 30/08/2019 20:15

I@Itsnearly2020 - got so into it did a weekend cycle electric bike trip to Barcelona Grin

MrsSpenserGregson · 30/08/2019 20:18

We've just got back from a week in a villa with private pool in Portugal. Decent Wifi. Hired a car to explore a bit, go to beaches, markets etc.

Big supermarket 15-minute drive away so we filled the fridge, did breakfast and lunches at the villa, then beach / town etc in the afternoons, back to villa for shower, then out for dinner each night.

Teens are 15 and nearly 13. Best holiday we've had!

Separate bedrooms for the kids, and Wifi, were key!

Itsnearly2020 · 30/08/2019 20:26

@TooDamnSarky we went with Flexitreks and though it’s expensive the hotels were great, the bikes in really good nick and I’d do it again. Essentially they give you the maps and you have all day to make it to your next destination, we did about 60k a day so plenty family time! A lovely man picks up your suitcases every day and delivers them to your destination 😊

Aramox · 30/08/2019 20:30

Cheaper and environmentally friendly also a bonus- I know mine would love the big US etc trips but too expensive to do that more than occasionally even if flying that often was ok.

We did Simply Morzine last summer with DS and a pal. They had their own room on the same corridor, activities were extra but good adrenaline stuff like canyoning and mountain biking, and half board kept the costs down a bit.

Neolara · 30/08/2019 20:39

We've just had a week in the Pyranees doing white water rafting, canyoning, mountain biking and hiking. We all enjoyed it.

Arewedone · 30/08/2019 21:55

@TooDamnSarky we arranged our flights and hotels then used Grasshopper Tours in Asia. They were really reasonably priced. Bikes good and well planned routes. The “guide” aspect was hit and miss so we assigned each teen part of the journey to research and be able to explain as the cycle guide was generally for the route!
We have just done 7 days cycling in Bali which has also been fantastic. I would never have imagined myself as enjoying this kind of holiday but can honestly say it has been fantastic!

mumontherun14 · 30/08/2019 22:02

We had a fab 2 weeks in Salou Spain and visited the Portaventura theme park and water park which they loved. We had a nice hotel with food included but we went out for breakfasts and to the beach and then other days just chilled. At night they liked playing pool with us and cards and one night we went to a magic show. Normally we go to Tenerife as they love the water park there and there is also golf, horse riding and go karting (mine love an activity - but not too much!). We are planning Florida in 2021 and hopefully tacking on a trip to Canada to see family x
