Suits for 6th form

Have spent my day off work shopping with DD16 for suits for her new 6th form college (I know.....ridiculous that they can't just wear jeans FFS!) and after 4 hours in town we have one suit.....there's nothing but sale crap in the shops! We did all the usual chain shops - Next, M&S, H&M, New Look, Primark.....etc etc. Got the one suit we have in Next. Panicking that I'm running out of time to get her sorted for the new term as she goes on holiday with her dad for 2.5 weeks in a couple of days. Any good online ideas from anyone please? Also need shirts/blouses.

That sounds ridiculous, I thought secondary uniform rules were OTT Hmm

Ok this was never meant to be a debate about whether or not the rule to wear suits is reasonable - I just wanted to know where was best to go shopping for them!! Glad some of you have got such strong opinions on the subject though...

The way I saw it in the years up to 6th Form DS wore a shirt and tie and smart trousers, and then at 6th Form he wore the same thing but just not from the uniform shop.

Think yourselves lucky. My son's 6th form (granted boarding) required a three piece suit. Thankfully my son embraced it and now has a love of waistcoats, cufflinks and collar stiffeners. Oh and overcoats!

just be thankful you didn't ask on AIBU, OP!!:-)

My children’s school 6th form has a uniform that is not to disilmilar to the regular school uniform of blazer shirt, tie, smart, black trousers.
The 6th formers just wear a different coloured shirt and different colour tie. Which makes it much easier to buy as you just get it through the uniform shop.

Have you tried h and m, tkmax, supermarkets do some smart business wear sections also. Even give primark a chance. Not the best quality but you could get a variety of options.

Yeah we did look in Primark and H&M, I think it's because the sales are on that there's so much rubbish in the shops. Will try the supermarkets though. We have one nice one from Next so she can have a cheaper one as back-up!

Have you tried Matalan, Tesco, John Lewis and Sainsbury's?
When I was in Sixth Form (1988-90), we had to wear a grey suit with a white shirt. I had one jacket with two skirts and a few shirts. My daughter is starting Sixth Form in September and has to wear 'smart office attire' (state school). It's also the same dress code at the school I teach in (independent school). To be honest, I think it's good to have high standards, as kids will always push their luck anyway.
My previous school had a very relaxed dress code and male teachers were always feeling awkward about too much cleavage/too short skirts from the girls. The boys just looked scruffy.

We had difficulties finding petite suits. Eventually we found a couple in Austin Reed but the ones she wore most came from Mango.

I have just started to look and it's harder than I'd ever imagined. The suits are women are really hideous and it seems she does not want black, which I was banking on - that might have to change. Sorted my ds out quite easily but dd is going to be very challenging.
Bloody school stupid school dress code.
