Teen hourly rate for helping out

I have asked a teen (15) to help me out whilst I am away e.g.check on house, water plant and bring in post etc. There are a few strenuous chores involved (garden) and I think about 10 hours worth of work in total.

I haven't a clue about pay. What would you be happy with if it was your DC or what would your DC be happy with?

You need to pay be the job not by the hour, or they'll manage to take 5 hours emptying the dishwasher! I normally pay £5 for what i reckon to be an hour's work (eg mowing lawn, or cleaning car) though sometimes they do it faster and still get £5.

Take care too to pay only for jobs that you definitely don't expect them just to do anyway - once they've been paid for them they'll want paying every time. It is useful though if you're working full time and a teenager is at home slobbing around to get them doing some of the housework and earning some cash

I'd pay £5 an hour if they live really close by and £6 if they have further to travel.

We have someone feed our cat twice a day when we are away and pay £10 a day but our teen is a 10 min cycle away. The actual job takes 5-10 mins twice a day but it's a PITA to have to cycle over imo.
