What to do about daughter and her part-time job.

Recently my eldest daughter sadly passed away very suddenly. Now, we are finding an issue with my 17 year old daughter who has a part-time job, she is back at work they only gave her one week off. She seems to be struggling emotionally and we are worried about her at work - she was shouted at unnecessarily by a manger and feels isolated. What do we do?

@Mrsjayy as for the notice period DD and I really aren't sure. Suggested she ask a colleague but would it make it too obvious?

She must leave.

Drive her there-‘she can go in and hand her notice in. Then leave and have a duvet day.

It’s only a part time job- it doesn’t define her and will absolutely zero impact on her future.

Had 6 weeks off initially, went back to work (in healthcare) and realised I was still grieving too hard to give a shit about anyone else’s problems, so got signed off again. Work were very supportive,

Your poor daughter, do whatever you need to do to get her more time off. Does she really need this job that badly?

Does she have a contract ? If she doesn't she could just pack it in tomorrow if she wanted.

...and the issues your 17yi DD is having

I’d talk to her & see what she really wants and how I can help her achieve that it maybe that she’s just like a month off then go back rather than quit but it sounds shit & I’d be heavily encouraging her to quit - they could whistle for working a notice period after the way they've treat her!

Depending on how long she's worked there, could just be 1-2 weeks. But if she's acrued holidays in the time she's been there, she could probably have her notoce period as paid holidays

She's worked there about 6 months, before my eldest's death we had conversations about her finding a job where they would give her more hours, more respect etc. but we felt because she was the youngest that soon they would do this anyway and DD was adamant about staying put - she adores some of the older girls. After another chat with her tonight I think we have agreed she will quit the job, we just need to sort some formalities regarding notice period etc. She has two shifts scheduled this Friday and next with another one probably added to her rota this weekend sometime. She does have two weeks off booked in August so at least there's that.

What’s her contract OP, if she is on a 0 hour contract, she can put her notice in, and from the date of her notice period, advise that she’s unavailable to work.

I wouldn't worry about notice period. Wait until she's paid and then quit. I wouldn't think holiday pay for a very part time job would be worth working out the notice period.

But if it is get a doctors note for the notice period. It's just not worth the stress at this time. And it's not like this will follow her in the future.
