Just wondering what people spend on birthdays for their teens?

I don’t set limits, it depends on so many things. Dd has loads of friends and is always out so has more spent on her on an everyday basis. Probably spent around £100 or so on her birthday. Ds rarely goes out and buys his own clothes so had a MacBook for his 15th.

Thanks for the reply. Like you we don't set limits as such. I was just wondering as my ds is feeling a bit hard done by. Wondering if we are a bit mean or its just him feeling that everyone else's life is better than his!

Depends on their interests and needs at the time.

Once I spent over £1k on a camera and lens for DS; another time I gave him £100.

He was happy both times.

Hard done by is the default mode for some kids isn’t it! I think it’s not helped by the consumerism of the times they are growing up in. My ds almost equates what we spend with how much we love him... it’s sad and can be tough for him, trying to teach him to be happy with less but that’s a life lesson for all of us...

Mine got cash from age 16. £250.

Hard done by is certainly a default for some! I think in our case it's a bit of that, a bit of feeling fed up in general and a bit of us not having huge amounts to splash out (more than some, but far from money no object iyswim). Thanks for the reality check . . . . gives me some perspectiv which helps.

I think I spent about £200 on my 14 yo daughter. She doesn’t want much and didn’t request anything which made it really hard. My 15 son always has a huge list and always gets more throughout the year too. He’s just done his GCSEs so got £150 watch for that and an Xbox for his (not yet) birthday.
