I'm thinking of taking ds to Ikea in the summer holidays to stock him up with kitchen stuff and bedding. Is that the best choice? Would I be better off shopping around?

asda usually have some pretty good stuff at low prices. eg: duvet covers, duvets, pillows. for kitchen stuff, I would have a look around. Home bargains have a 16 piece cutlery set link for £5, wilko have a 4 pack of glasses link for £1, they also have a set of 2 frying pans for link £4. all the best x

sorry, pressed send to early! a few more things you will need that are good prices:

dinner set from wilko
vegetable peeler from wilko
corkscrew from wilko
washing liquid. you get so many washes out of this that its cheaper to buy it than the smaller bottles

all the best x

Don't bother with iron & ironing board. They are not used.

If you hop over to the Higher Education board there are lots of threads from previous years about what to take and what to not take.

Mattress toppers are popular but you might want to hold off buying any bedding until accommodation is finalised. Every hall at DS's uni has different sized beds, none of them standard! They did at least warn us before he moved in... DD arrived to find that she had a double bed so had to do an emergency run to Primark for bedding.

Another tip is everyone has Ikea stuff so if you buy stuff elsewhere you are less likely someone will take yours by mistake! If you do go to Ikea, a couple of the cheap small clear stacking boxes with lids are super useful - for transporting stuff, then as extra storage (or repurposing as a recycling bin or wardrobe organiser or laundry/cleaning caddy). DS actually took his Ikea pop up drawer organisers with him! He just packed his socks, boxers, belts and shoes inside them then unpacked them straight onto the wardrobe shelves/drawers ready to go.
