Mine (actually she's 14 now) has just gone up. Upstairs by 10pm, usually.

BoardingSchoolMater · 12/05/2019 22:15

My DS's 'lights out' was 9.30 when he was in his first year. I think he faffed about on the internet after that, though. DD is 15 and at a day school. I take her phone and laptop at 10 PM. She then gets bored and goes to sleep.

Pipandmum · 12/05/2019 22:16

9.30ish on school night. Around 10.30 on weekends. On long holidays it gets later but she sleeps 10+ hours. But she says she’s ready it’s not like I have to tell her to go. My son would stay up later and he’s an early riser. Just needs less sleep.

TwoBlueFish · 12/05/2019 22:23

DS is 14 his bedtime is Officially 9:30 on school nights but he faffs a bit so more like 10. Weekends about 11.

Threeminis · 12/05/2019 22:32

My ds is 12.
Phone/tv off at 7:30 (he's a terrible sleeper and screens really affect him)
Bed by 9
Lights off 9:30

Ohyesiam · 12/05/2019 22:36

Dd is 14 and usually takes herself off to bed by 9,9.30. But she does sports three times a week that means she gets home around 10, buzzing, and has to be shoe-horned into bed about 10.30. The worst bit is bloody snap chat streaks,

Th1me · 12/05/2019 22:36

Bedroom at 10pm supposedly- looking at my 14 year old sat next to me.
Bedtime - anytime. Be quiet, get up for school with no issues, get good reports, grades and parents evening and I’m happy.
He knows any of that starts to slip I will care what time he goes to sleep. But him and my 15 year old DD have never let me down so I’ve never had to make rules.

happyhillock · 12/05/2019 22:38

Around 9.30pm - 9.45pm school nights,
11pm weekend's

dementedpixie · 12/05/2019 22:38

Ds (12) is just doing his teeth before bed now as is dd (15). Ds will be up around 7 and I'll have to drag dd out of her bed a bit later as she's on study leave for exams (has an exam tomorrow at 1pm)

BrokenWing · 12/05/2019 22:46

Depends on when they have to get up. Ds(15) gets up at 7am, he usually has lights out around 10pm as he knows he needs a good 8.5-9hrs to wake refreshed and he notices in the morning if he had been even 30 mins later. At 13 it was closer to 9:30pm for lights out.

MrsBlondie · 13/05/2019 11:15

Thanks all.

Struggling getting DS to bed early enough. Does not help that ALL friends are online still when we force him off (between 8-9pm). We are the mean ones insisting he is in bed for 10pm and lights out 10.30pm.
Heyho the fun of teens!!

My niece is this age and 9pm on a school night. 10-11 on a Friday/ Saturday.

I’m not saying she’s asleep at 9pm btw...probably nearer 10.

Langrish · 13/05/2019 11:36

Was 9 on school nights, 10 weekends.

BrokenWing · 13/05/2019 13:03

We take ds off his PS4 around an hour before bed too, but we are lucky that he notices himself that he is shattered in the morning if he doesn't get to sleep early enough, so he kind of self regulates.

Does he wake/get up ok, or want to stay in bed. If he is refreshed in the morning I wouldn't worry too much, if he is obviously tired tell him that is why he needs an earlier bedtime.

reytmardy · 19/05/2019 22:15

8.30 teeth/pyjamas. Asleep by 9/9.15

OhFFSMary · 19/05/2019 22:21

Mine is 14yrs. Goes up by 9.15, lights off by 10pm. He gets up at 6.30am for school (long journey) so needs the sleep. Dd who is 15yrs tends to stick to the same sort of timing but lights out a bit later (10.30pm ish - her choice). Neither of them has any tech in their bedrooms but some of their friends message at all hours.

CarolsBiggestFan · 19/05/2019 22:22

All electronics are off by 8.30pm and she goes to bed at 9.30 on a school night, but will read in bed for 15 to 20 mins.

JoMow · 29/05/2019 07:49

School nights - screens off by 8pm
...then what we call a shift activity, something that is relaxing and usually involves listening to chilled out music, yoga, drawing, writing, scrapbooking, and, of course, reading until lights out by 10 at the latest.
During the weekends / holidays we still insist on screens out at least an hour before lights out by 11pm.

Strugglingtodomybest · 29/05/2019 08:26

On a school day my 12 year old is supposed to be in bed at 9pm, but it's usually closer to 9.30pm. My 14 year old is in his room with the ps4 off by 9.30pm but can choose when to turn his light out. It's usually about 10pm.

At weekends or in the today's they can stay up as late as they like in their bedrooms.

As a pp said, so long as they're doing well as school, I'm not too bothered.
