DS15 would like a job: where do we start??

We're encouraging our DS15 to now get a job he can do at the weekends and during the school holidays. Aside from the financial gain, it will be good to teach him about the value of things and improve his social skills.

He's organised, athletic and confident, so there's a lot he'd be able to do, but I'm not sure how to help him find one and who I or he should approach.

Can anyone offer any advice or anecdotes on this?

my dd is the same age. We helped her write a CV (there are loads of templates online) and called up local cafes asking if they would take on a saturday kid (you want smaller ones rather than chains). if they said yes, we dropped her CV in. she had to do a trial, and if that went well she got offered the job (do ask about the hours though!) all the best x

He could apply to supermarkets via their websites - I worked in a Tesco which employed quite a few U18s for weekends, and overtime was always available, especially in school holidays! It may be good for him in terms of learning responsibility and other skills, as they had all the same duties as other staff members, except they couldn't work on the tobacco/lotto desk, and if selling alcohol, they had to call across to an over-18 member of staff (e.g. "Daily, alcohol" - "yes") to comply with the law. That's if he goes for a till-staff job - he could also work replenishing stock in the aisles, or deliveries.

A mum near me recently posted similar about her 14 yo on a local FB page, and I’ve hired her to help with the gardening. Worth a go? She’s delightful and does a better job than DH!

I think for Tesco you have to be 16? Or in GCSE year .

athletic: refereeing football matches for under kids, can a 15yo do that?
