Teens driving

I’m terrified

My son is not old enough to drive yet, but he’s already telling how he wants me to go fast when I’m driving and he can’t wait to get behind a wheel to drive ‘at speed’ and ‘have fun’.

I explained that people die in car crashes but he seemed undeterred. It’s not just him driving that scares me it’s being a passenger in a mates car as well.

Please tell me when your teens actually get to 17 and old enough to drive they’re a bit more sensible and less reckless!

How old is he?

If he is 5, don't worry too much.

If he is 16, be very concerned.

And no, they are not all like that at all. Some of them are sensible on the roads and some of them are dicks.

Mine all were pretty sensible —I hope—. Two passed their tests approx 3/4 months after their 17th birthdays and one passed 3 weeks after their 17th. All 3 had their own cars with black boxes fitted for insurance purposes and all 3 were put on an advanced driver course after they passed as well as winter driving courses. We live very rurally and they’d been driving on private roads since they were about 13. They all relied on their cars to get out and about so maybe that also was a deterrent in case they lost the car?

I can’t deny I was sick with worry sometimes if they were late home though!
