Just wondering if you would allow a small group of 16yo girls go away for a few days? To a cottage in a small coastal town.
Reason I'm asking is I know someone allowing this and was a bit surprised. They do drink, and parents know this.

DS went to a festival (not Reading).

I was really worried about drugs availablity but on balance I convinced myself it was safer than going to a random cottage as there was a) less to damage & b) not possible to take in alcohol or buy any on site (they had age wrist bands and bags searched) c) better medical facilities close by in the event of drugs stupidity d) something to keep them occupied.

I may have been misguided but it worked out fine.

Went away with friends the summer post GCSES. I know what we got up to, so does make me shudder, but in the same vein, I went, so we could at the same age if she wanted to. They are technically young adults, sex is legal. My issues would be my mum ugh ness. In reality, why not??

DS went away camping for a couple of nights with a few friends post GCSE, only about 20 miles away though.

I don't think that any of the friends he went with had fake ID for buying alcohol though so they were reliant on the cider 4-packs provided by parents and that would fit in their rucksacks with the baked beans and sausages.

There were a couple of kids in his school year went to Turkey or Ibiza somewhere at 16 and I was a bit shocked at that.

I went camping with friends at 15 and it was a mixed group of boys and girls! Yes, there were some shenanigans in sleeping bags, but no drinking as we knew there'd be no chance of buying anything, we all looked too young. Grin

I remember all the parents discussing the trip before we went and now it seem amazing that we were allowed to go, even though it was just a few miles from home. I don't think I'd let my two do the same...the double standard strikes again.

I went away camping at sixteen with a mixed group. It was very tame. But that is because of the kind of kids we were. We went walking, bit of truth or dare (very mild things), we didn't even drink any alcohol. Are too much chocolate, that is all.
I really think with things like this it depends on the individuals involved. I know some sixteen year olds would begetting drunk, taking drugs and doing dangerous stuff. But I hate that Somme adults act as if all 16 year olds are the same. They really aren't.

I would say no. 18+ yes, 16 is too young I think

By the time they are eighteen they are officially adults so don't legally need your permission anyway.

Ds2 went to Reading at 16. Post GCSE

He also went with 2 friends to France for a week at 16. They had a great time.
