At what age are you happy for teen girls to have a sleepover without an adult in the house?

Just girls, no boys. One of the girls’ parents lives 5 mins walk away.

Unchartered territory here so would be interested to hear others’ experiences. Thanks.

I think 16 year olds are generally pretty good. I had unsupervised sleepovers with my friends at that age, and we had boys over for a while, but we kicked them out. We had our boundaries. My DD is 16 and I trust her. She tells me everything, and her telling me stuff in her life makes me trust her even more. Her friends are so secretive with their parents so I feel lucky.

  1. This is also the age I'd leave DC alone overnight.

I wouldn't be happy with that at 15-16. For the reason mentioned above, it's too easy for them to decide to go out, or stay somewhere else. Or invite others over, or have others just turn up, get drunk, etc. If I was hosting I'd stay largely in my room but wouldn't be happy with DD staying over elsewhere where there's no adult all night.

I think 16 is a good limit. It is hitting that happy medium between protecting them and keeping the communication open. Otherwise they will just lie to you.
