Walking home at night

Hello

This is my first time on here.
I'm a mum of a nearly 16 yr old boy who's currently suffering with depression and is under CAMHS.
I'm finding the whole situation very difficult and upsetting. It's horrible seeing him struggle and so unhappy. He used to be so happy and we had a really good relationship.
He used to love school and get high marks. Now he has no motivation to do anything and his GCSE are just round the corner. His school are very supportive but it's got to come from him.
To add to the complication he's now started seeing a girl 2 yrs older than him. We haven't stopped him.
He wants to see her on Saturday night but we are going out and can't pick him up. Said he needs to be home by time we go out at 7.30pm. He wants to walk home at 10pm on his own which will take 50 mins. What are your thoughts? I'm thinking maybe I'm to strict??

Depends on the route. If down dark country lanes with little or no pavement then it's an absolute NO - whatever age.

Is there no bus - even for part of the route?

Can you give him some money towards a taxi & maybe he pays half of it??

If I can't pick my 16 year old daughter up, I order and Uber for her and watch the app carefully as the car picks her up and brings her home. I realise this is a luxury though.

Back in my day, walking home at 16 would have been fine. However....times have changed...... (or have they?)

50 mins is a long walk, can't he get a cab?

I'd probably allow it. Walk in fresh air is good for lifting depressed mood. I would let DD walk that far in most areas, too (not that she would have suitable shoes).

I'd have to arrange a taxi
