Smoking

Hello, first post so excuse any faux pas.
I'm concerned that my 13 year old son is smoking.
He had a sleepover last night at a friend's and his jacket stank so much I had to wash it - I'm going to search his room and bags ect but if I front him head on he'll deny it all - any advice you can give to approach it/catch him in the act would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

How do kids even get cigs or afford it these days? It was £1:10 for 10 B&H back in my day so easily affordable... and there was always some dodgy types at the co-op who's buy them for you if you were denied!

Anyway... my parents never confronted me even though they must've known. They always subtly dropped into conversation how smelly it was and how dangerous/unhealthy etc it was. Just spent time sending negative messages about smoking subliminally.

I guess it depends on your DS. Would he react badly to you sitting down and asking him? Not accuse or confront but be a concerned parent. And then asking him whether he's aware of the long term effects? That it's socially unacceptable and girls will think he's a smelly boy with bad teeth!

I've no idea TBH. Sorry I've been no help.

Could it just be that the parents of his friend smoke? My dd comes back from her dad's reeking of smoke sometimes and that's only from visiting his mum for a few hours.
