Summer camps teenage boys (14/15)

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 11/01/2019 19:00

Hi,
Looking for recommendations of summer camps that are age appropriate (not too babyish) and pretty outdoors / adventurous to help my teens take even a few days off the "electronics" during the summer break.
Anyone found something that works and is engaging? Uk, or europe ideally
thx!

I'm local, so haven't used the residential provision, but mine have done various courses at Uppingham

uppinghamsummerschool.co.uk

Very well run, high standards

Following with interest, DS15, if anyone knows of skiiing please share, he's been once with the school, unlikely to go again as places always offered to those that haven't been, we aren't very unlikely to go as a family, and he would love to go again.

Bonkersblond · 11/01/2019 19:09

Oops sorry just noticed you said 'summer camp' , interested in those as well.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 11/01/2019 19:09

thanks they don't seem to have any up at the moment.

I'm also looking for something quite adventure focused, not academic or art..... a total break from school, otherwise I'll never get them to go along.

I always fancied the ardeche descent at that age

PGL do some great courses for teens. The driving course is excellent. They get to drive real cars (on private land, natch) and also learn theory, basic car maintenance etc. They drive for half the day and do other activities for the other half day. The food is good and plentiful. It is teen boy heaven.

Boyskeepswinging · 11/01/2019 21:39

Oh and meant to say it's only the 13 - 16 year olds who can do the driving so they'll be with others of the same age.

beachyhead · 11/01/2019 21:41

Are they into bushcraft?

Stillwishihadabs · 11/01/2019 21:42

D's does sailing courses . The local ones.are great, but I don't know.where you are based.

Neolara · 11/01/2019 21:47

Get them to join their local explorers group and they'll have a summer camp to attend.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 12/01/2019 12:21

PGL seems a popular suggestion. They do like there are some varied adventurous course available.

I like the look of the outward bound as well!

My DS attended Immerse Education programmes last year. Academic focus but lots of activities and fun.
Well organised and taught by Cambridge academics - focused him on studies

Bugger me, they are expensive!

Have you considered an international camp that also accept British children or teenagers? It's a sad fact that many British youngsters lose out on the international summer camp experience enjoyed by lots of foreign children who learn English together in the summer. If you can find an international camp that also accepts British children it's a great opportunity for them to broaden their horizons and make new international friendships. See for example www.countryschools.co.uk/ecs-plus/english-through-adventure
