DS 14 and insomnia

My DS has been struggling to sleep for ages. He has no screen time for 2 hours before bed, is really active (football 3 times a week, basketball, golf and at least one long family walk every week)
It doesn't matter what time he goes to bed or wakes up, he finds it impossible to sleep before 1 or 2 am. He then gets stressed because he knows he has to get up for school/sport and it makes it worse.
I've tried white noise, relaxation music etc but it doesn't help. I'm hoping somebody may have a magical solution or some ideas I haven't thought of.
Thanks in advance

DD is like this, plus up at 5:45am on school days. She sleeps until 1pm on Saturdays & in hols. She makes it work.

Does he have a regular bed time routine at the same time every day?

Also wondering if the Headspace app could help.

Is he worried about something? My DS was very conscientious at school and it affected his sleep

Does he wind down in the hour before ? DS prefers shower or bath before bed rather than morning & then comes down relaxed in dressing gown or reads in bed for 20mins.
Is his bedroom too warm? Better to be cooler room & heavier duvet. Having a window open just a little helps. There was some scientific research paper on fresh air circulating & teen sleep.

Thank you for the replies.
He has a bath at 8.30 every night. Then comes downstairs until bed at 10. He reads for a while in bed, light off at 10.15. This is every week night but it can be later at the weekend although not much difference due to early starts for sports.
I'll have a look at the headspace app tomorrow.
We have all our upstairs windows open (just on the latch) all of the time and no heating on after 9 - me & DS prefer to be cold and find we can't breathe if the windows are closed.
I try not to let him sleep in late as part of me thinks this will be counter productive but I may give it a go.

Have you tried giving him herbal tablets to help him sleep? You could also try some lavender spray to make him feel more relax. I was the same when I was younger and tbh my insomnia has worsened! But these things can help a bit

Insomnia is a common problem at this age. Is he too cold?
I've used various pillow sprays to help my teens. Does he read?

Diet can help https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/how-get-good-nights-sleep and I think in one trial a prebiotic had the best results.
