Hi all
What sort of hobbys does your 18yo Have?
My DS needs to find something I think but he is at a bit of a loss so I would like to be able to offer him some suggestions

I have a 17 yr old and 2 who are older, but at 18 they've all still had hobbies and things they've been involved with for some time previously.
Football, rugby, Scouts (moving in to Leadership more), ds plays FIFA, climbing, walking, camping, social life with friends from those hobbies.
When off to university, trying new things there.

The things is, it doesn't matter what our dc do, what does your ds enjoy ?

Life drawing

Thanks for the ideas

The main issue is he doesn't really know. He is quite isolated as he was expelled from school and lost contact with old friends
He has now turned his life around and has nearly completed an apprenticeship bit just doesn't get the opportunity to mix alot with people his age.
I am hoping some suggestions may spark an interest somewhere and give him the chance to meet like minded people

What did he enjoy when he was younger? Was it something that can still be enjoyed by adults? For example I am an Adult Fan of Lego and I belong to to a Lego group that is adults only. I found the group on meetup.com. Often what a person loves when they are 9 or 10 gets forgotten and pushed to one side once you enter the exam exam exam world of secondary school - but as an adult you can often get what you loved back.

Okay, so, starting with obvious ones....

a sports team ? rugby / football / cricket / hockey / dodgeball / basketball ?

a group that do climbing/ kayaking / walking / archery / rifle shooting ?

a squash league / badminton group /

a choir ? band ?

Or Leading / coaching in any of above?

A course to improve skills in something he is interested in - cooking / car mechanics / could be anything ?

Volunteering - Scouts, Sports Teams, youth groups..... befriending (older lonely folk have lots of schemes... a friend recently volunteered with deaf blind society.... autistic youngsters.... youngsters with learning difficulties)...... Doesn't have to be direct leading groups - lots of opportunities to maintain campsites or be service crew for big camps etc.......

10 pin bowling league or club ?

Martial arts? These often welcome at any age and with no experience unlike sports teams

Firefliess · 03/01/2019 22:58

Mine got really into martial arts. He could join an adult class aimed at beginners.
