DD grassed on my Waitrose spending spree

Hello all, i'm looking to vent and maybe seek some advice.

My DD22 came shopping with me to Waitrose whilst back for xmas hols and immediately stitched me up with the hubby!!!
I only spend money on what we actually eat, and as a family of 4 over Christmas that is generally quite a lot. I spent around £250 for a week's food shop. I'm now really pissed off at DD for telling DH how much I spent because she knows he doesn't approve.

Thoughts? How much do you spend on a food shop this time of year?

Eh? How is it grassing you up? Is it your money in which case who cares or 'family money' in which case surely he'd know anyway.

Do you normally have to hide what you spend from him?

AgentProvocateur · 28/12/2018 14:37

Doesn’t matter how much anyone else spends. The question is why you feel you need to lie about it to your “hubby”. What do you mean he wouldn’t approve?

Family of 4, shop before Christmas, £135. Really pleased that we have had no waste, all has been eaten Smile
Also butcher was £50.

22 is not a teenager. I had a mortgage and a family at that age.

The problem is with your DH not your DD.

notacooldad · 28/12/2018 14:42

Why is this a teen issue when your DD is apparently 22.
Why does your DH not approve and what would he do about it anyway?

BertrandRussell · 28/12/2018 14:44

Why do you have to hide your spending from your husband? Why did you ask your dad to keep it a secret?

Akire · 28/12/2018 14:44

Are you getting into debt spending? Or does he think that you should just buy cheap as chips items even though you could afford more? If you have the money then treating family at Xmas isn’t unreasonable as long as it was needed and not wasted. Or was the budget much lower? Either way your DD was being nasty stirring up trouble and your DH sounds a control nightmare over money

You have a DH problem not a DD problem. As long as you can afford it, why does it matter what you spent?

I spent what I know is an obscene amount on our Xmas food and drink (much more than your Waitrose shop) but I can afford it and we had all had a hard time with my Mum dying at the end of Nov. We all needed to relax and kick back a bit.

If you can't afford it, it's a very different matter.
