She wont revise!

DD Yr13, recently had a meltdown at school panicking as she had got behind in her course work. DH and I met with her Head of Year who put things in place to support her and enable her to catch up as she said she was suffering with panic attacks and anxiety. Fast forward to Christmas holidays, she's done some course work in one subject (though she is still behind) but no revision for her mocks which start as soon as she's back to school in January. She gets terribly defensive if I suggest she priorities revision over shopping trips with friends. At 17, its hard to 'make' her revise. She's had offers from all the Unis she applied to but I am concerned that she will just accept her unconditional and take her foot off the pedal even more. I've arranged for her to have some tutoring in one if her subjects, but am loathe to finance this if she is making no effort. How would you handle this?

I wouldn't worry about her mocks in January. The worst that can happen is that she fails them all and then.... nothing as they aren't the real thing. Sit her down, emphasise to her the importance of studying for good exam results and then leave it. As you have said you can make her do it so all your doing right now is making her defensive and you miserable. Let your self off the hook, she is still your baby but this is one of her first truly grown up decisions and to be fair in the grand scheme of life it not that big a deal.

Mumunderthemoon I am inclined to agree with you. We will see where we are after her mocks. I don't want her stressed and unhappy as that achieves nothing. We've had a chat, she's going to sort out a timetable for revision/coursework and downtime. I will be encouraging but backing off. Crimson if she was too busy working to revise, I would agree, but there seems little point in her quitting her job and then still not studying. Thanks all for your suggestions. I'm going to sign off this thread now.

Same boat here!

My dd has been suffering with anxiety/loss of appetite/sleeplessness since October half term. She's now seen the GP who referred her for CBT/pyschotherapy so I'm hoping that will help.

In the meantime she's doing very little work and also has A Level mocks in January. I am worried if she doesn't work and doesn't do well in the mocks, it will affect her self esteem and be even less likely to work. She has shut me off completely and refuses to discuss revision. If I ask her, she doesn't answer me properly. And she has also asked for private tuition which (at the moment) have agreed to.
