What do Mumsnetters mean when they say they wouldn't let their teen taste spirits

So have noticed some parents say they'll let their child/teen have a taste of what their drinking outside spirits. But I don't get what they mean by that. Does it mean a Gin and tonic, a alcopop (like Smirnoff ice), A cocktail or neat spirits.
My DD won't be trying any of these until she's 18 for the sole reason of I don't have them in the house and so she'll have to wait until she can buy them herself since I won't be able to supply them (I drink Budweiser, Stella, Magners and we have some wine for special occasions) but no spirits since I only really drink them when out and even then I tend to go for the beer like a Guinness if it's with a meal or either a Pint of carlsberg or Stella or a bottle of Budweiser.

So yeah Not really a rant just curious if anyone can answer that's great

errr...unless (like me at that age) she is completely antisocial and never goes anywhere, this is not my experience of what being a teenager is like...

I never supplied mine with spirits either. They still knew what vodka was like before they hit 18.

@corythatwas well I don't have them in the house and I don't have £16 to waste on Smirnoff for her to try and maybe not even like. If she's a bit older than 15 and can pay for it herself I can live with that just don't want to spend all that money on alcohol she might not like

What I meant was, by that age, they'll be going to parties and there will be friends there who will share, so "she'll have to wait until she can buy it herself" in my experience doesn't really apply.

I have teens and I sometimes have a cider or a rum and coke in the house.
The older teen (19) will often have a rum and coke if I am having one and has done for a few years.

The younger one (16) quite likes a fruit cider every now and again.
