Lymecycline antibiotics, are they safe to take by a 13 year old for acne?

Hello all,
My dd just turned 13 and was prescribed lymecycline for hers as it's really affecting her. It's on chest and back as well. But now that I'm not seeing the effects I started doubting myself for having started the course of AB altogether. We are 5weeks in since started and can't wait to stop at 8 weeks. Worried about her teeth, her growth and now liver after reading your posts.
Please someone reply and share your story!

I took this as an adult, so not sure about the age related bit, but to manage my acne it did the trick for a number of years with no real worries. I took it at night as it made me a bit nauseous in the first few hours after each tablet and that way I just slept through the nausea. I only stopped because I developed an intolerance to it after I stopped and went back on it. I stopped as I thought that by 40+ I might have grown out of my acne . . . . no such luck. I now take a different antibiotic long term and again it's been great. My acne wasn't loads of spots, but regular huge cystic spots that left scars and took about 10 days each time to calm down once they came up (and always on my face).

Yes. Both DCs are on them - you need to give 3 months for them to take effect.

Worked great for my dd. She took it for a few months when she was 15. Cleared her acne and she now just uses Duac cream daily to keep her skin clear.

Thank you for the messages. I stopped them for my dd after 4weeks, she had stomach aches and I just worried that she's still growing and changing to have tjis added on. The spots are back so will try taking her to dermatologist to identify the bacteria and treat it specifically.....

I have had courses on 3 separate occasions and they ALWAYS kick in after 4 or 5 weeks only.
I was using them for cycstic acne on the chin.
Regrettably with me they come back once the course has finished so just about to start Roaccutane.

" Acne, by mouth child 12-17 yrs: 408mg daily for at least 8 weeks"

that is directly from children's BNF

it is perfectly safe and you need to give it at least 8 weeks
It may be unreasonable to expect a referral to dermatology on nhs if you haven't tried all the medication that her GP can prescribe and for the correct duration first

Should work but I would get her a probiotic to take to as they are hard on the stomach flora.
