What do you give your dds for coping with period pains while at school? Dd12 has just started her period and the pain is getting worse as each month comes. She is not keen on taking paracetamol as she isnt used to tablets and I'm not keen to put some in her bag to take as needed incase she takes too many. Today she cried in the toilet cos the pain was bad so any advice would be appreciated xx

Can she take ibuprofen? You can get nurofen meltlet things which means she wouldn't have to swallow a tablet, and you can tear off a pair of them so she couldn't take too many.

You can also get those stick on heat pad things which she could wear under her clothes?

I really feel for her. I'm 34 and my period pain had me in tears on Friday!! If it continues, a trip to the GP might be in order.

Calpol 6+ do melting tablets and you can detach them individually. They are expensive though

Fastmelts although they are really an expensive paracetamol

Thanks everyone, I'll have a look at these. Think it's normal period pains but she doesn't cope well with pain so I'll give these a go. Xxx

Buscopan will help with cramping, so will taking magnesium daily .

You need to work out what works for her, and then write to the school and give permission for her to have it.
Legally, the school can't let her take anything unless you've given permission.
Really, you need to get her to your GP to get her a prescription for something that will help.

I don't want to freak you out but please get her checked. DD had terrible period pain throughout her teens. She was in her twenties before she was diagnosed with endometriosis. And then only because of a major emergency and subsequent operation to remove chocolate cysts. I still feel so guilty that i didn't push for an explantion for the pain before. But I belong to a generation that just took painkillers and soldiered on. I hasn't even heard of endometriosis. Good news is that with excellent nhs care, and operations to remove adhesions, she's has been able to have 2 babies. So, fingers crossed, it's just period pain...but please see GP.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll give the melts a try. I have had something similar to endometriosis and it's horrendous. I'm going to hold off taking her to the docs as she has just started her periods and I think she's just taking bad with now getting cramps (she has a low pain threshold too so don't think that's helping). She's not one to take a lot of medicine and doesn't like tablets so hopefully these melts will help. I will keep an eye out though as I wouldn't want her to suffer what I did. Thank you all for your help xxxxxx
